Ni Yan conducted herself with neither servility nor arrogance, impressing everyone around her. So, China had become this strong!
“This beautiful lady, my name is Sara, and this is my son, John. Please tell me your name, as I must thank you properly,” Sara asked.
Ni Yan responded with a smile, “There’s no need to thank me. By the way, do you have a pen and paper?”
She had saved a life out of duty. If she possessed medical skills but refused to use them to save lives, it would be morally wrong.
“Yes, I do.” Sara took out a small notebook and a pen from her bag and handed them to Ni Yan.
Ni Yan grabbed them and began to write on the paper. After about two minutes, she returned the items to Sara. “This is a prescription. If you fill it out and follow the instructions to boil it with water, three days of consecutive ingestion will completely detox the body.”
Even though they were in M Country, if one was earnest, it was not difficult to find traditional Chinese medicine.
Sara looked down at the notebook filled with closely packed writing.
Not only were the names of Chinese herbs translated into English, but the instructions were also written clearly in English.
The handwriting was brisk but readable, revealing a sort of bravura that was pleasing to the eye.
Initially, Sara thought Ni Yan was going to write down her address. It was unexpected that she penned a prescription instead.
The young Eastern lady was quite different from what she had imagined.
Just as Sara wanted to say something, the girl who was previously before her had mysteriously disappeared from sight.
“My dear, we’ve met an angel!” Sara exclaimed excitedly while holding onto John.
Ni Yan and Ni Cuihua headed for a magic show. Unfazed by the incident, both mother and daughter continued their day.
Ni Cuihua marvelled at the magician performing tricks like ‘Metamorphosis’ and ‘Alcoholic Teleportation’…
“My goodness! This is amazing!” This was her first time watching a magic show. Since leaving Dam Village, her life had been filled with countless first times.
It was almost midnight before the trio returned to their lounge.
Despite the island lounge not being as luxurious as a hotel, it did not affect their sleep. The island was peaceful, with only the sound of waves crashing against the shore in the late-night silence.
While walking along the beach the next day, Ni Yan set her eyes on a purple and white striped maxi dress. To match the dress, she bought a wide-brimmed straw hat.
The next day, Ni Yan donned the dress, paired with the hat and sunglasses. Her height made the long beach dress even more flattering. She looked more fabulous than a superstar walking down the beach, turning heads as she went.
“Oh dear! I almost didn’t recognize you!” Emily ran up to Ni Yan as soon as she removed her sunglasses.
Ni Yan in a cheongsam was vastly different from Ni Yan in a beach dress! Emily thought.
“Was it that dramatic?” Ni Yan asked with a chuckle.
“Yes, absolutely!” Replied Emily, nodding emphatically.
“By the way, we’re planning to return to the hotel tomorrow. Do you want to join us?” Ni Yan continued.
“Yes, of course! I need to get that miraculous ice jade skin cream from you!” Emily responded excitedly.
“Alright, we’re leaving at 5 am tomorrow to watch the sunrise,” Ni Yan replied. The sunrise by the sea often occurred much earlier than on land.
Emily nodded in agreement.
The next morning, Ni Yan and Emily boarded the boat back to the hotel.
Despite her numerous trips to the islands in her previous life, this was Ni Yan’s first time watching a sunrise at sea. Standing at the end of the deck with a glass of aromatic red wine, watching the sun slowly rise, was an incredibly surreal experience. The sunrise over the ocean was more spectacular than on land, especially when the sea turned red with the reflection, creating a wonderful scene of the sky mirroring the sea.
Something leapt out of the water.
“Ah! Doggy!” Little Ni Yun clapped excitedly. At just over a year old, she had yet to learn the names of all animals and thus referred to everything as “doggy” or “birdy.”
Ni Yan laughed and corrected her, “Yunyun, that’s not a doggy. It’s a dolphin.”
The ocean in M Country during the 1980s was unpolluted, and dolphins were not overfished. The marine ecosystem was well-preserved; spotting dolphins in the sea was not a rare occurrence.
