Chapter 4: Night of Sin
Meanwhile, in the storage room, Zi You was suffering from dehydration but she no longer had strength to call for anyone, much less the strength to stand and walk out of the storage room.
She attempted to crawl to the exit of the storage room but the acute pain she felt in her ribs and abdomen almost caused her to faint. She knew that her rib bone was broken, it was broken by Hong Xiang's kick.
Also, she might not be able to keep her unborn child as she felt a wet patch on her pants.
Tragic! The granddaughter of the great old general, the descendant of Goddess Dumoli is now reduced to a state where she's being beaten by mere mortals. As Zi You looked out of the window, she felt like crying but had no tears left.
When Zi You thought that the heavens had forsaken her, Hong Xiang and Lan Xuan barged into the storage room with their trusted servants. The worst had yet to come.
Zi You lifted her head and looked at her 'husband' and 'best friend'. "Why did you all treat me as such? I've never done anything to let the both of you down."
Lan Xuan replied "My dear sister, who told you to block my path? Who told you to occupy what was rightfully mine? Your man, your dowry, your everything belongs to me!"
With bloodshot eyes, Hong Xiang bit his tooth and said clearly " Don't blame me, when you're alive, you're part of the Zhao family, even when you die, you will remain a ghost of the Zhao family. I will not allow myself to be mocked by the world because of you. Instead of living so miserably, why not die early and be reincarnated early? Xuan'er has said that your dowry consist sixty thousand silver tales, I can't let you take it away, so…. why don't you… GO TO HELL."
Hong Xiang literally screamed while he said the last sentence. His crazed look and the lightning in the background made him look like a man-eating demon from hell.
Hong Xiang took out a rope, looped it onto Zi You's neck and shouted at his shivering servant, Cheng Cai "Damn servant! What are you waiting for? Quickly strangle her!"
Not daring to disobey Hong Xiang, Cheng Cai grabbed onto the other end of the rope and started pulling. At the same time, they hung Zi You to the ceiling.
Zi You was shedding blood tears, and it dripped onto Hong Xiang's arm. The next day, the general's household received news of Zi You committing suicide. Reason being she was caught cheating with a servant and in a fit of embarrassment, she choose to hung herself, ending her life.
Zi You's second aunt who's health has been deteriorating died soon after receiving the news. Her second aunt could not handle her kin dying one after another. When she passed away, she left three of her young children behind.
Zi You's father who initially had plans to investigate this matter was talked into staying out of it by Zi You's stepmother.
"Master, Zi You had been reckless and unvirtuous while she was alive, rumors about her and her father in law are enough to fill entire streets. Now that she has passed on, what's the point of investigating further? Instead, our best course of action is to minimize the damage to our reputation and beg the duke's family to sweep this incident under the carpet!" said Zi You's stepmother.
"Damn!" Zi You's father shouted as he stomped his feet. After a long sigh, he said "This horrible daughter! If I had known she would become such a shameless woman, I would have strangled her in the cradle!"
