"Grandpa, there’s something I need to ask you—let me get this clear first, and then you can scold me all you want, okay?" Meng Xinian held the phone a little farther from his ear.
His heart couldn’t help but tense up at the same time.
The old man’s health clearly wasn’t up to much yet he insisted on getting so worked up, he’d probably run out of breath again in a minute.
"What’s your damn issue? Speak!"
"That time you told me about, back in Peace Town—you said you had been helped by a local with some medicine, and that’s how you and my uncles managed to pull through and save your lives. Is that really true?"
Meng Donghai seemed not to have expected him to bring this up and was taken aback for a moment before becoming enraged, "You little bastard! Do you think I would joke about something like that?"
Meng Xinian massaged his brow, "You’re my father’s father—stop messing up the family hierarchy."
He really wanted to send in the troops and kill this damned kid, what to do?
"So, the matter where you promised the local’s granddaughter in marriage to your grandson, that’s true as well?"
"Of course, it’s true!" Meng Donghai grew even more furious as soon as this topic came up, raising his voice, "Since the year you turned fourteen, I’ve been reminding your father about it annually, asking him if that local’s daughter had given birth to a girl yet. If she had, I told him to set things in stone immediately—to settle the matter! But your father, with his head filled with womanly nonsense, never listened, and brushed me off year after year!"

Meng Xinian silently moved the flashlight even further away, his face a picture of helplessness, "Grandpa, if you keep being this vulgar, don’t blame that woman for whispering in my father’s ear and driving a wedge between you and him more than ever."
"Humph, you think I’m scared? She can’t stand me as much as she wants, but she can’t kick me out of this house. No matter how she sweet-talks your father, would he dare to throw me out?" Meng Donghai said this and his breath grew heavier.
"Alright, alright, calm down, don’t get agitated. I’ve advised you before, what’s the point of living together when things are ? You might as well move out. Why don’t you come to G Province and live with me? Why insist on staying there and crowding with them?"
All these years enduring grievances, what had it all turned into? And he still insisted on staying there?
He had been advising for so many years that he almost felt powerless.
It was just that there was no effective approach to this old man.
"Why the hell should I leave? If anyone’s leaving, it should be them!" Meng Donghai snorted indignantly, "Enough, let’s not talk about this! Why are you asking about that matter? Haven’t I told you before? You’re not much better than your father in your behavior, never wanting to listen to me. And now suddenly you’re taking the initiative to ask?"
"I never wanted to accept that arranged marriage, and yet you reminded me annually to remember that I was a man with a fiancée, to not go fooling around with young girls outside," countered Meng Xinian coldly. "That year on my eighteenth birthday, they went ahead and threw me a birthday feast, trying to trick me into meeting the girl. And didn’t you go along with their scheme, announcing to everyone there that I was already promised in an arranged marriage? You’ve been using my marriage as a pawn against them for years, and now I’m not allowed to inquire about it even once?"
Meng Donghai felt a bit guilty, "If I hadn’t used that arranged marriage to oppose them, you would have been tied up and made into a groom long ago!"
"You tell me, then, who was that person? What’s his name, from where in Peace Town? I’ll go and take a look."
"You’ve finally come to your senses? Going to look for your little bride?" Meng Donghai was overjoyed.
"I’m going to see the situation first," Meng Xinian said gravely.
