Chiang Songhai and Ge Liutao couldn’t possibly claim they hadn’t heard the commotion in the yard, could they?
Yet those two actually managed to stay inside the house, not even coming out to take a peek!

Ho Laidi was a mix of anxious, angry, and frightened, and with the world turning dark before her eyes, she actually fainted.
Chiang Xiao curled her lips, tossed the bag of rice bran into the corner, and squatted down to untie the rope.
Only then did Chiang Songhai and Ge Liutao emerge from the inner room with complex expressions, looking at the unconscious Ho Laidi. Ge Liutao’s lips moved slightly, and she couldn’t help but ask, "Little, your Aunt, she’s... she’s all right, isn’t she?"

She hadn’t clarified to Chiang Songhai and Ge Liutao how she was going to handle Ho Laidi, only telling them that once Old Chiang Family members returned and saw the yard wall, they were bound to be livid. She said she would deal with them when the time came, and asked Chiang Songhai and Ge Liutao to stay out of it as much as possible.
But given the horrendous way she and Ho Laidi had been yelling, how could they not even come out to check?
Ge Liutao couldn’t help but glance at Chiang Songhai.
"We sneaked a peek and saw that it was you... you hitting your sister-in-law," Chiang Songhai admitted hesitantly.
"So, once you saw that I wasn’t the one getting hit, you felt relieved?" Chiang Xiao widened her eyes, a hint of amusement in them.
She didn’t know what Grandpa felt when he saw her thrashing Ho Laidi, but seeing his current discomfort and concern made it clear that they were anything but calm, perhaps feeling as intense as a sudden mountain torrent.
Who knew how much they were suffering.
Chiang Songhai sighed deeply, his tone rather heavy as he spoke, "Little, my thoughts were simple. I knew they would explode once they saw this yard wall. Your Aunt was bound to come at you, and you’d get hit. Grandpa is useless, unable to protect you. But since you can protect yourself, it’s better you hit her than the other way around."
Indeed, Chiang Songhai was in great turmoil.
But his thoughts were truly simple.
