Meng Xinian was baffled by her inexplicable anger. What on earth was causing her outburst? Why did he find her previous words so disagreeable?
"What do you mean by ’as friends’?" he frowned, his expression darkening, "When did we ever become friends?"
They were fiance and fiancee.
The engagement gifts had been exchanged, the banquet held. And now she was talking about being just friends? He was not pleased.
"If we aren’t even friends, then you have even less obligation to keep me company," Chiang Xiao misunderstood his meaning, thinking that in his heart, they weren’t even qualified to be called friends.
Right, perhaps he felt that she was just a little girl, unworthy of his friendship.
"Let’s consider this meal as my treat. After we eat, you can go deal with your own matters."
What kind of talk was this? How could it get more absurd?
She had come all the way to the provincial city to find him, and she had to treat him to a meal?

Meng Xinian entered the restaurant with a stern face, following her.
Xiao Sun brought them to a mid-range restaurant that looked clean and hygienic and even had private rooms.
Meng Xinian immediately asked for a private room, to which Chiang Xiao immediately objected, "It’s just the two of us, what do we need a private room for? A spot by the window will do."
The waiter glanced at Meng Xinian, who nodded in agreement.
Let’s go with her preference.
They sat down in a window corner, with a wall behind and a couple of young men and women sitting at the table in front and beside them, apparently on dates.
Once seated, Meng Xinian pushed the menu toward Chiang Xiao, "You order. Whatever you want to eat, just order it."
Still annoyed, Chiang Xiao immediately retorted, "I am not stupid. Would I order something I don’t want to eat?"
Was she challenging him now?
He really couldn’t figure it out. Everything was fine, so how did it come to this?
The waiter, amused by Chiang Xiao’s remark, and seeing Meng Xinian with a dark expression, couldn’t help but laugh and said, "Actually, all the dishes in our restaurant are delicious. Comrade, feel free to add something after your sister orders."
So, they couldn’t escape the brother-sister assumption, could they?
And it certainly didn’t help that Chiang Xiao looked so young, making him feel somewhat guilty to correct them that she was his fiancee.
"I’ve ordered three dishes. That should be enough for two," Chiang Xiao pushed the menu back to him.
If you say it’s enough for two, why are you asking me to order? You’re doing this on purpose, aren’t you?
He looked over the menu, noticed a dessert, and added it before handing the menu back to the waiter.
Chiang Xiao glanced at him and couldn’t help saying, "I wouldn’t have guessed that Captain Meng liked sweets."
"I ordered it for you, Little Frog," Meng Xinian sighed, his tone laced with helplessness.
