"You really want me to wear that?" Meimei asked as she stared at the tattered dress with disgust evident in her eyes.
"Do you not want to meet with your parents? Your sister also did the same thing, you should know that you are doing it for yourself and your parents," the man coaxed, and she nodded, albeit reluctantly.
She looked at the dress, and she heaved a sigh while telling herself that it was for herself, her sister and her parents.
"Fine, give it to me," she finally agreed, and he handed it to her with a creepy smile.
Meimei shuddered as she looked at his smile. For some reason, she felt like he was taking revenge on her.
She and her sister had always played pranks on him, and it seemed he was trying to use this opportunity to get back at her.
"You are doing this for revenge, isn’t it?" She asked as she held the dress to her chest.
"You can think whatever you want to, just get dressed," he replied, but one could hear the eagerness in his voice.
Meimei could only heave a sigh before going back to change. Once she stepped out, he burst into laughter, perfectly happy with the situation he put her in.
"This was on purpose, wasn’t it?" She asked as she tugged at the tattered dress while glaring at him.
"You are smart, which is something I like," he said with a smirk, and she rolled her eyes in return.
She knew it was not appropriate to listen to him but the urge and eagerness of wanting to meet with her parents caused her to forgive him, for now.
"Let’s go, and you should also tell me what you have planned out, I want to know," she urged him as she directly held his hands, pulling him out of the small cottage immediately.
"Meimei, take it easy, they are not rubbing away, you have to be calm," The man tried to hold her back.
"Uncle Zheng, we have to be quick, there is no time," Meimei had forgotten that this man was the one who took revenge on her by making her way tattered clothes.
Soon enough, Zheng dropped Meimei off at Li Qiang’s office. He did not need to tell her anything as she knew what she had to do, she was the one who wanted to meet her parents, so she did not need any directions.
Since it was still early in the morning, Meimei waited for about thirty minutes before she noticed a car drive in. Once the owner of the car stepped out, she came out of her hiding spot as she stared at the person with admiration in her eyes.
She stood rooted in her position and only moved when she saw he was about to walk into the building.
One thing people did not know about Meimei was that she was a good actress.
She rushed in front of him, which caused him to stop in his tracks. Thankfully, she and Li Chuxi were not identical, but they were fraternal twins or else, the plan would have failed.
Li Qiang frowned as he stared at the intruder who had obstructed his path.
"Little girl, what do you want?" Gao Yang was the one who asked the question.
Meimei did not say anything as she sniffed while staring at Li Qiang. She felt disappointed. Her father was standing in front of her, but she could not do anything but watch and act.
"Where are your parents?" Gao Yang asked again when he saw that she did not give a reply.
On hearing the word, ’parents,’ Meimei’s eyes lit up before it dimmed once more. She was a good actor.
"Mom and dad have no recollection of me or my sister, they do not even know they have a child, talk less, two kids," Meimei gave a reply as she tentatively looked towards him for his reaction, but it was blank.
Li Qiang squinted at the little girl. He did not know if what she was saying was the truth. For what he knew, she could be lying. Should he trust her was the question?
His mind was saying no, but his heart was saying yes. He felt a disarray of emotions, and before he could think properly, he had already stretched out his hand towards the little girl.
Meimei cocked her head as she stared at his fresh hands. She wondered what he wanted her to do with his hands.
Li Qiang looked at the girl’s confused expression, and he took back his hand.
"What is your name, little one?" Li Qiang asked.
"I really do not have a name, but you can call me Meimei," Meimei replied with a bright smile on her face.
"Meimei," the name rolled out of his mouth smoothly and the little girl’s smile brightened.
How it was nice that her father just called her a nickname, though she did want him to name her. The same way Xin Yan named her elder sister.
Suddenly, there was a loud grumble and Meimei held her stomach with an embarrassed smile as she looked up to Li Qiang, hoping not to see a look of disdain on his face.
"Hungry?" He asked, and she nodded while her face flushed with embarrassment.
Due to the excitement of finally meeting her parents, she did not have breakfast, and it seemed Zheng did not bother to remind her. He wanted such a situation to occur.
"Come on, I will take you to have good food," he said and stretched his hands towards her once again.
"I want you to take hold of my hand, I want to hold you," he explained to her, seeing her confused look and she nodded before placing her hands into his.
Gao Yang shook his head. It seemed both President Xin and President Li had the natural talent of attracting children.
As the both of them walked towards the car, there was a stark contrast between the both of them.
One was dressed in a suit, looking smart and neat. The other was dressed in tattered clothes and though her face looked fair, the fact remained that she was dressed in tattered clothes.
