The old lady looked at the woman crying like raindrops on a pear blossom and slightly furrowed her brows, "What’s going on? Crying ."
Megan Lowe wiped her tears as she walked into the dining room, just about to speak when she saw Mason Bennett in front of the dining table. Her crying suddenly stopped. It wasn’t even Friday; who would have thought Mason Bennett would be back.
"Mom, Jeremiah got beaten up. He’s my only son. If something happens to him, I can’t live either." Megan Lowe cried, nearly out of breath, looking as if she’d suffered the greatest injustice.
Bella Green hadn’t expected that after hitting Jeremiah Bennett in the day, her mom would come here at night to complain?
She furrowed her brow and looked at Mason Bennett, wondering if she had caused trouble for him?
"What exactly happened? Speak clearly. Why on earth would someone beat him?" The old lady’s face darkened, her voice low, revealing all the authority of the matriarch.
She had never liked this daughter-in-law from the second son’s family; she wasn’t bothered by their humble background.
But no matter how many years Megan Lowe had spent in luxury, she couldn’t hide her coarse demeanor.
Megan Lowe dared not cry anymore after hearing this and looked at Mason Bennett with a face full of fear, seemingly wanting to speak but holding back.
"I asked you to speak, why are you looking at Mason?" the old lady’s tone grew heavier.
Megan Lowe was startled, her face full of grievance, yet in her heart, she was furious.
Obviously, they were all grandchildren, but this wretched old woman had eyes only for the two sons of the main house, treating her son like grass.
"I’m just afraid that if I speak, Mason will get upset. After all, the kid who did the beating is under his protection, or he wouldn’t dare to hit Nathan Bennett."
Bella Green almost burst out laughing in anger. This person was clearly suggesting that Jeremiah Bennett was beaten because the other party had Mason Bennett backing them?
Siding with outsiders to bully her own cousin, that’s quite the accusation. Especially saying this in front of the Bennett family’s old lady.
"Auntie, are you sure it’s not something your son did to deserve a beating?" Bella Green asked, smiling with her hand resting on her chin.
"Whose child is this, so disrespectful, adults are talking, why are you interrupting?" Megan Lowe was somewhat annoyed upon hearing this, and upon seeing an unfamiliar face, she immediately scolded.
As soon as these words were out, both people at the dining table had a drastic change in their expressions.
The old lady’s face was quite unappealing, but before she could open her mouth to scold, Mason Bennett’s deep and cold voice eerily rang out, "Second Aunt, is this how you represent the Bennett family’s upbringing?"
The man’s voice was neither high nor low, not scolding loudly, yet the invisible pressure still left Megan Lowe somewhat unable to withstand it.
"Mason, Second Aunt was just too anxious. After all, Jeremiah, he..."
"He what?" Mason Bennett wiped the clean corner of his mouth with a napkin, his eyes arching, filled with endless indifference.
"He, he..." Megan Lowe stared at those eyes, her mind blank, unable to say a word for a long time.
"Do you need me to help you say it?" Mason Bennett continued, but his tone had obviously changed, cold and oppressive, making it hard to breathe.
"Enough." The old lady suddenly slapped the table.
Bella Green was startled, her brow furrowed. She couldn’t deny that Mason Bennett had just been too domineering, without leaving any face for the elder. Was the old lady unhappy now?
Thinking that Mason Bennett might get scolded because of her, Bella Green felt a surge of anger rising, directly aimed at Megan Lowe.
