Mason Bennett sat up, pulled out the needle, and tossed it aside.
He lifted the blanket, got out of bed, and gently picked up Bella Green.
Before he could steady himself, Mason felt a blur in his vision, lost his balance, and fell onto the soft bed with the girl in his arms.
The man reacted quickly, reversing their positions to protect Bella underneath him.
Her frail body pressed against him as if weightless, and the faint fragrance at his nose made Mason pause.
This little commotion gradually brought Bella Green to wakefulness, her sweet dreams interrupted. The girl frowned, mumbling something incoherent.
She opened her sleepy eyes, looking at the extraordinarily handsome face in front of her, and furrowed her brows.
That hoarse voice carried a soft sweetness, which inexplicably tightened Mason’s throat, his gaze on Bella’s eyes deepening.
Bella pouted, looking aggrieved: "Why is your bed so hard?"
Saying so, she started to crawl upwards, using both hands and feet, squirming in the man’s arms until she found a comfortable position and fell asleep again.
She slept comfortably, but Mason was not so composed.
The little person in his arms squirmed, her little arms and legs brushing against everything she ought to and not.
The man’s eyes narrowed dangerously. Hard bed? Or is it him that’s hard?
As he was thinking, Mason’s face suddenly darkened, nearly turning as black as ink.
After being jostled around by the little rascal, a certain part of him was showing signs of waking up.
He cursed under his breath, instinctively wanting to push her away, but upon seeing the peaceful sleeping face nestled in his arms, his hand hovered in midair, never landing.
Mason looked up at the ceiling and sighed.
Forget it, forget it, let him just lie down.
His whole body felt sore and weak, and shortly after, Mason fell asleep as well.
When Bella Green woke up, she groggily saw an enlarged, handsome face, a smooth chin, a tall nose, eyes shut tight, and long, thick eyelashes casting shadows on his eyelids like lotus fans.
The man’s striking beauty was as if a regal king had stepped out of a comic book, but this handsome face seemed a bit familiar...
Bella blinked, blinked again, and suddenly, her large, round eyes widened in shock.
Holy crap, Mason Bennett!?
Her fluffy little head turned in a circle, and upon realizing her situation, Bella almost cried.
Did she, in the middle of the night, impulsively pounce on Mason? This was absolutely insane...
She gently crawled off the man, slipped off the bed, grabbed her fluffy bunny-ear slippers, and was ready to make a run for it.
"Where are you going?"
A deep, magnetic voice dropped into Bella Green’s ears, like a soul-stirring melody.
She maintained her crouched position, tiptoeing as she slowly turned around, her face quickly lighting up with a smile: "Ah, what a coincidence."
"Coincidence?" The man looked at her with an amused but skeptical expression.
Bella forced a smile, looking more like she was about to cry: "Brother, I swear I really didn’t mean it."
The soft call of ’brother’ skimmed over Mason’s heart like a feather, tickling him in a strangely pleasant way.
