Reborn as a Devouring Dragon with a System Chapter 42

Drake stood before a cage in the slave building, looking at the figure that had a lifeless look on her face. It felt as if there was nothing more left in the person.

Drake could see a lot of bruises on the person’s figure, making him shocked about what had happened. As for the person, it was the female receptionist at the inn where Drake and Kaidros had lodged.

When he heard the words of the crowd, he knew that the young female receptionist had gone against Young Master Leo, not revealing their identity or the room they had lodged in—until his identity was revealed.

This increased the opinion Drake had of the young receptionist. Her behavior had been good to him, but seeing her here with such an expression confused him.

He told Kaidros to try to get some information from her, and Kaidros nodded, equally surprised about this. But it seemed he had an idea of what had happened.

"Young lady, do you remember me?" Kaidros struck up a conversation, but the young female receptionist didn’t reply at all, her eyes still hollow like those of a dead person.

This made Kaidros and Drake confused because it hadn’t even been up to six hours, yet now the young lady was . The event had happened a few hours ago before sunset; now it was getting close to midnight, and her entire being had changed.

"Oh, is that the slave that interests you?" the old man who was in charge of the slaves asked when he saw Kaidros trying to talk to the young lady.

"You have a good catch. She just came not long ago from our client. We don’t know why she is , but don’t worry—she’s going to satisfy your sexual affections," the old man said with a smile.

When Drake heard this, he was shocked by what the old man said. He signaled to Kaidros, who rushed forward and grabbed the old man.

"Can you elaborate more? Like, who sold this girl to you?" Kaidros asked, threatening with cold eyes as his sword aura was released.

When the old man felt this, he shivered. He felt death close to him, like an ant before an elephant.

"I don’t know, honestly. Our client doesn’t give his identity," the old man replied.

No matter how they threatened the old man, his words remained the same—he didn’t know the identity of his client.

After confirming the old man was telling the truth, Kaidros restrained him. He then turned to the young receptionist. With her looks and everything, it was clear she was just in her twenties.

"What about your parents?" Kaidros asked.

Immediately he said this, there was a spark of light in her eyes before she burst into tears.

"They are dead... massacred."

When Drake heard this, he was shocked. Meanwhile, Kaidros wasn’t as surprised. As for the rabbit children, they kept their silence—not because they weren’t intelligent enough to comprehend what was happening, but because Drake had made sure they didn’t join in the conversation.

"They were killed by Young Master Leo, right?" Kaidros said in a profound tone.

Shock passed through the lady’s eyes as she looked at Kaidros, wondering how he knew.

Drake wanted to ask, but seeing the young lady’s expression, he knew Kaidros was right. He thought of their own case, then his eyes flickered for a moment. This young lady had been affected because of him.

If he had given up that room, this wouldn’t have happened to her—right? Drake fell into thought while Kaidros looked at him silently.

"You should know, Drake. I’m disappointed in you," Drax’s voice rang out as he appeared beside Drake. "You know, when you first got reborn in this world, I knew how you were. Even though all you had in mind was harem, there was no fear in you—only excitement about how this world was."

"But since that period when you met those people you hid in the wolf corpse, you’ve begun to change mentally," Drax said.

When Drake heard this, he looked at Drax with a sigh, thinking about multiple things.

"Do you know what dragons hate the most? It’s cowardice. In the Dragon Clan, even if you have the royal bloodline of a dragon, if you behave like a coward, you’re just a snake, lizard—not a dragon."

"Because of your actions, she was implicated. If you had shown enough strength to threaten the young man—which you had—this might have been an entirely different fate. You were trying to avoid trouble, but don’t you know that in the world you’re in, you don’t look for trouble—trouble looks for you? You knew this young woman could be implicated but never expected it to be , right? Using your ideas from your former world... in an entirely new world that’s far different from your world in terms of concept, time, and people."

Every word from Drax seemed to hit a sore spot in Drake. Everything he said was true—a hard reality.

"Drake Vorr, don’t forget who you are. You are the Dragon Emperor, the one who will lead thousands of dragons. If this is how you behave, do you expect dragons to follow a coward? Even though you’re the emperor, their hearts wouldn’t be with you. Every time the system awakens one, you have to subdue them and make them willingly follow you."

"Dragons are prideful creatures. We fear nothing—even if we go against gods as mortals. We fear nothing as long as it’s to protect our fellow kin. Don’t tell me this is how you’ll behave when you want to avenge the Dragon Clan."

It seemed as if Drax was growing frustrated with Drake’s behavior, so he let it out now.

"As the Dragon System Spirit, I am the same. I have no fear of the unknown. Don’t forget—you said you wanted to become the strongest person. Is this how you’re going to do it? Behaving ? As a ruler and emperor, you must be domineering—not without fear, but stronger than it. If you’re afraid, then what do you expect of your comrades?"

"In the battlefield, even if your enemies are strong, as the commander of the army, you must show not fear but courage to lead. Because if you show fear, you’ve already lost the battle before even fighting."

"Drake Vorr, don’t forget this one thing—you aren’t a human, but a dragon!" Drax roared out.
