Gently knocking on the office door, Luo Qiao heard a voice from inside, “Come in.”
The police officer leading the way pushed open the door, “Chief, your sister-in-law has brought you some dumplings.”
Lu Yichen stood up and walked around the desk to see his wife standing at the door. He said with some concern, “It’s so cold. Why did you come here?”
Luo Qiao replied with a playful smile, “Isn’t it because I wanted to bring you some warmth?”
The officer at the door had delivered the person and quietly left. He hurried down the stairs; if he was any later, he wouldn’t even be able to snatch a dumpling skin.
Lu Yichen pulled her to the sofa to sit down, “Thanks, Qiao Bao, let’s see what you’ve brought me?”
Actually, he had already eaten in the cafeteria beforehand, but as soon as he opened the lunchbox, he couldn’t wait to put a dumpling in his mouth and mumbled, “Delicious.”
Luo Qiao helped open the other lunchboxes, which contained ribs, shrimp, meatballs, fish, and lastly, she didn’t forget to prepare a refreshing vegetable dish.
Luo Qiao watched Lu Yichen eat, feeling utterly sweet inside.
Lu Yichen enjoyed the meal and chatted with her about a bizarre case that day. He said that around ten in the morning, an old lady came to report a theft, claiming that a lot of the New Year’s goods prepared at home had been stolen.
When the police went to her house, it didn’t take long to find the missing items in her daughter-in-law’s cabinet. The reason for stealing the New Year’s goods was to have some face when she went back to her mother’s home on the second day of the New Year.
Luo Qiao sighed and thought to herself that it was surely poverty stirring up trouble.
After Lu Yichen finished his meal and washed the lunchbox, he finally asked, “When did Uncle and Auntie arrive?”
Luo Qiao was peeling an apple for him, “They arrived just in time for dinner, and Yanyan and Yueyue really like them.”
The two chatted for a bit more, and noticing that it was getting late and not wanting to disrupt his work because of her, as they were on duty, Luo Qiao stood up to gather her things, “I should be heading back, or I’m afraid Yanyan and Yueyue will be waiting for me.”
Lu Yichen stood up, “I’ll take you home.”
Upon hearing this, Luo Qiao burst into laughter, “You better not, I don’t want to disrupt your work, and besides, you know my skills. I drove here; it will only take half an hour to get home.”
Unable to insist against Luo Qiao’s wishes, Lu Yichen compromised by escorting her downstairs, watched her get into the car, and saw her off before turning back to the station.
As soon as he returned, a group of officers on duty gathered around him, “Chief, the dumplings your sister-in-law brought are really tasty.”
Lu Yichen’s face showed a hint of a smile, “That’s because your sister-in-law personally made the filling. How could it not be delicious? You guys got lucky.”
With that, he walked away, proud as a peacock.
