The city lord was clearly a Starry Sky Level expert on the brink of death; his lifespan unknown and likely very short. It was best for such beings to avoid combat, as their vast battle experience could result in unpredictable and mostly dire outcomes.
"No, no, no! My friend, when I first saw you as a Flying Monster, I already had an idea, and now that I’ve discovered you’re Starry Sky Level, that’s even better. In this broken place of ours, it’s rare to see another Star Space Level being within ten or eight years. You can’t go, please heed the pleas of this pitiful old man."
The aged monster emitted an ancient Brainwave Power voice that sounded very profound to Jia Yan, permeated with the aura of death.
"What exactly do you want to do?"
Jia Yan glanced around; the guard creatures had already moved far away, seemingly unwilling to listen to the City Lord’s secrets.
Jia Yan looked strangely at the so-called City Lord, who at this moment seemed to treat Jia Yan as a lifeline, his excitement palpable. Even within his aged body, a faint semblance of vitality could be discerned.
"It’s , you should know that there’s a dangerous place in our Desolate Star System that contains many wondrous things. As you can see, I have at most six months of life left. So I must go there in search of something called the ’Life-Extension Stone.’ With this stone, I could regain a bit of vitality and youth, and there’s even a possibility to break through to the Mid-Starry Sky Period, gaining hundreds of years of life."
"I’m terribly sorry, but I don’t know of the place you’re talking about! And as for the Life-Extension Stone, I have no interest in it." Jia Yan eyed the Star-level City Lord suspiciously, wondering if he had gone mad.
Since when was there such a thing as a ’Life-Extension Stone’? This wasn’t a fantasy novel.
"No, no, no! You can’t leave; in the past two years, you’re the most suitable Strong One I’ve found to adventure there with me. The Life-Extension Stone might be useless to you, but there are other things inside that would definitely be of use to you. You should know that even the major powers have tried to get involved there but can’t accomplish it. Don’t you want to advance to the Mid-Starry Sky Period? Don’t you want to have even greater Power?"
Jia Yan looked at the city lord, growing impatient. The man’s mind was already blurring, and his spoken words were increasingly disjointed. Jia Yan couldn’t possibly take such words seriously.
As he was about to lead Kama forward to bypass this so-called City Lord.
"Lord Jia Yan, what he’s talking about might be a place that’s only known in this part of the starry sky, the Chaos Starfield!" Kama said to Jia Yan.
"You know of that place?" Jia Yan asked curiously.
"I do, and maybe I know a bit more than others because I came to this starry sky through there from the Northern Star Domain," Kama replied with a hint of reminiscence.
"Since you’ve traveled through there, have you seen the Life-Extension Stone this old creature is talking about? His eagerness to find someone to venture there with must have some reason," Jia Yan inquired.
"My Lord, the Chaos Starfield is actually a vast area, so vast it dwarfs several Stellar Systems, approximately a dozen light-years in size. But venturing there, nine out of ten spaceships won’t return, and even Strong Ones often mysteriously perish inside. I myself was just lucky enough to reach this Stellar System from its fringes," Kama said.
"However, there have always been legends of miraculous places within the Chaos Starfield. Whoever enters and exits without incident tends to gain a boost in strength. Over five thousand years ago, a High-grade Star Space Level Strong One managed to break through to the Stellar Level there, becoming a towering presence in the world! Thus, that area has always been seen as an adventurer’s haven by the Strong Ones. But it’s too dangerous, with many perishing there."
After hearing Kama’s words, Jia Yan immediately lost any interest in that region. He didn’t want to risk venturing into such a perilous place.
"No, no, no! You can’t go; I discovered a place fifty years ago where Brainwave Power flight is infeasible, only Flying Monsters can traverse it, so you are essential. Please, go with me to that place,"
The aged City Lord’s speech grew even more incoherent.
Jia Yan looked to the side and saw that the guards, one by one, wore embarrassed expressions. Clearly, this wasn’t the first time the City Lord had done this.
He had long been a Strong One gone mad!
"I’m sorry, but I can’t accept your request!" Jia Yan said as he gently shook his head before continuing forward with Kama.
"No, no, no! You can’t do this. I won’t be the City Lord anymore; do you want to leave? If that’s the case, I will go with you; I’m sure I can convince you. Haha, your grandfather will definitely move you with sincerity."
The aged City Lord actually began to strip off his Armor, tossing it aside while yelling commands at the members of the guard.
"Did you hear that? I’m not the City Lord anymore. Bolby has always wanted to be the City Lord, hasn’t he? Give it to him; give this city to him; give my inheritance to him. Anyway, once I leave, even if I don’t die, I won’t come back here! I’m going with this Lord. If he doesn’t go to the Chaos Starfield with me, I’ll kidnap him. I’m so clever, hahaha!"
By shedding his Armor, the aged City Lord seemed to have discarded a heavy burden.
He began to trot after Jia Yan.
"Lord Mayor! This, this, this!" Guards one by one stood aghast, they hadn’t realized their Lord Mayor had reached such madness.
Some powerful Monsters would change their temperaments when close to death, but it was quite rare for one to go mad. Yet, this City Lord was one of those few.
"Let it be, since the old man has decided himself, let him have his way. From now on, I am the City Lord,"
A long sigh sounded in the ears of a few guards about to give chase.
This voice made all the guard Monsters stop their chase.
