Chapter 140: Chapter 140: That is My Sister’s Affection!
Abigail immediately dismissed her thoughts.
But if Brandon wasn’t interested in Ruby, could it really be that Teddy just needed a mother?
Or was there a deeper reason?
Abigail couldn’t figure it out and decided not to think deeply about it. After listening to Elder Piers, she changed the subject. “Grandfather Piers, may I visit the second young master tomorrow morning?”
“Of course you can. I’ll have the driver take you there in the morning.” Elder Piers didn’t think much of it. It was reasonable for Abigail to check on Brandon after she closed his chest wound.
After receiving confirmation, Abigail thanked him and returned to the nursery.
Teddy, though not startled today, had been tossed around all day, crying and fussing, clingy as ever. Abigail and Kelly took turns staying with him all night, and it wasn’t until five in the morning that he finally fell into a deep sleep.
Abigail napped for over two hours, forced herself up, gave Kelly a few instructions, and quietly left the house, following the driver to the city hospital.
However, when she pushed open the door to the ward, Ruby was there.
Abigail glanced at her stepsister, greeted her politely as if she didn’t know anything about the people who had chased her the previous day.
Ruby couldn’t remain as calm as Abigail, feeling the fire rising within her, but with Brandon present, she could only grit her teeth and hold it in, cursing Clark Stone silently for being useless and unable to deal with that fat bitch.
Brandon leisurely ate his porridge, seemingly unaware of the tension between the two women. It wasn’t until he finished the last spoonful and wiped his mouth and hands with a tissue that he looked up. “Miss Green, is there anything else?”
Ruby shot a smug look at Abigail, waiting for her to respond.
Pullan glanced at the two women on either side of Brandon, one plump and one slender, puzzled by the situation between them.
Ruby, seeing that Abigail didn’t reply to Brandon, couldn’t help but roll her eyes at Abigail, but her tone was gentle and caring. “Abigail, the second young master is asking you a question.”
She was about to get engaged to Brandon, so she naturally wouldn’t be addressed as Miss Green. The only other Green in the room was Abigail.
Thinking of Brandon’s impatience with Abigail, Ruby couldn’t help but smile smugly.
But Brandon seemed to suddenly understand. “Ruby, thank you for the porridge. Your legs haven’t recovered yet. I’ll have Pullan take you out.”
Ruby was stunned, still lost in the warmth of Brandon calling her Ruby. She met Brandon’s extremely beautiful amber eyes, seeing nothing but deep affection and sweetness in them. She looked at Brandon with a soft and seductive tone, “As long as you like it, I can…”
“Miss Green, I’ll see you out.” Before Ruby could express her deeper feelings, Brandon had already called for Pullan.
Pullan stepped forward at the right moment, opened the ward door politely for Ruby.
Before Ruby could react, she was already out of the ward, while Abigail remained inside. She wanted to scold Pullan, but meeting his cold and expressionless face, she forced herself to hold back.
Brandon casually tossed the other ‘carefully prepared’ porridge and the thermos into the trash, then looked at Abigail. “Fatty, help me lie down.”
Abigail, having watched an entertaining scene, glanced at the trash can with the oddly proportioned thermos, and as she helped Brandon, she casually asked, “That was a token of my sister’s care.”
Brandon lifted his gaze, his narrow eyes filled with meaning as he looked at Abigail. “Came by just to see me?”
“Here to collect the surgery fee.” Abigail didn’t bother to be polite with Brandon.
The man raised an eyebrow. The pain in his chest was still present, but the doctor’s words were even clearer in his ears.
His surgery was very successful.
“Alright, how much do you want?”
