Last night, Master Six personally took charge of the kitchen.
For the Prime Minister of the Gu Family, the old master would often cook besides when his mother was alive. Since she passed, it was rare for him to cook at home.
Because his son’s wife was coming for dinner tonight, he indicated that he wanted to cook personally, which showed how satisfied he was with Yecheng’s wife.
After all, the son’s wife was the one he had chosen for his grandson. There was no reason for the old master not to be satisfied.
Just after five o’clock, Ye Cheng brought Xiaofeng back home.
The last time she came to the Gu Family, she was visiting as a goddaughter of the Quan Family to celebrate the New Year with Grandfather. This time, she came as the wife of a Gu Family member to attend a family banquet.
"Dad, Mom," Yecheng said, carrying Dabao, while Xiaofeng held Erbao, and Ermao and Cai Ying followed with the stroller.
"You’re back," said the Prime Minister casually dressed today, less of his usual authority and more of a homely presence. He waved to Xiaofeng, "Bring the children over, let me have a look at them."
Regarding what happened between Yecheng and Xiaofeng, the Prime Minister had heard from Junmei. The child wasn’t Yecheng’s, but Yecheng’s health currently didn’t allow for having children. Regardless, as far as they were concerned, these two kids were to be seen as the Gu Family’s children to the outside world.
The little ones had gained noticeable weight after some time. Sucking on their thumbs and with bright, curious eyes looking back, their skin was so tender it seemed breakable at a touch, as adorable as could be.
Dabao was more reserved and would fuss when held by strangers, unlike familiar faces. Xiaobao liked being held by men, like her father.
Seeing the Prime Minister, she smiled as if wanting to be hugged.
The Prime Minister’s stern face softened with affection as he reached to hold her, chuckling, "This little girl knows to be close to me already. When she grows up, she’ll certainly be an incredible young lady."
Junmei came downstairs and glanced at Xiaofeng.
Today, Xiaofeng had her hair in a high ponytail, her sparkling eyes and tender skin didn’t show any signs of having given birth to twins.
"Xiaofeng is here," said Junmei, wearing a simple cheongsam and with her hair updo, both elegant and beautiful, "Come with me, there’s something I want to give you."
After their last heart-to-heart conversation, Junmei knew she had to make a gesture to show her acceptance.
Xiaofeng didn’t understand what she was being called for, but as it was an elder inviting her, she naturally wouldn’t refuse.
Junmei took out a box made of sandalwood carved with pretty patterns. She opened it and removed two silver locks, handing them to Xiaofeng, "I was wrong for making things difficult for you before. As long as you and Yecheng live well together, I won’t get involved in your affairs from now on. As for the boy and girl twins, they are now the flesh and blood of the Gu Family. These were made by the old lady for her unborn great-grandchildren, and I’m giving them to you to put on the children."
Xiaofeng hadn’t expected Junmei to truly accept her and the twins’ existence, and that she would even give the silver locks to the twins.
Thankfully receiving the silver locks, Xiaofeng expressed her gratitude, "Thank you."
"I don’t want to make things difficult for you anymore. The children are not to blame, and I have a condition: no matter what, I hope you can have a child with our Yecheng," Junmei said with a hint of choking in her voice.
Her concern was whether Yecheng, if his cold poison wasn’t cured, might never be able to have his own children.
Xiaofeng understood Junmei’s feelings. She held her hand, reassuring her, "Mom, don’t worry, Yecheng and I will definitely have children."
She was determined to find a cure for Yecheng’s cold poison.
"Good," Junmei said, wiping away tears, "We will be one family from now on. I have no other requirements, just that I hope you two will be well and that you have another child soon."
When she came out, Xiaofeng put on the silver locks given by Junmei for Erbao,
Dabao’s silver lock was carved with a dragon and the word "peace." Erbao’s also had the word "peace," along with a phoenix carving.
"Girl," Master Six called out to Xiaofeng from the kitchen, "Come over here."
"Grandpa," Xiaofeng entered the kitchen.
Master Six handed her a small bowl of soup, its color delightful, "I made this especially for you, have it while it’s hot."
"Grandpa, what is this?" She apologized for her ignorance, not recognizing the soup.
"It’s just something good. Eat up, how could I harm you? You shouldn’t forget, I am a doctor," Master Six urged her.
