The person in pain instinctively let go of the boy and girl twins.
The boy and girl twins felt a surge of joy and ran off, shouting, "Mom, mom."
Xiaofeng opened her arms, and some medicinal powder floated out from her hands before she instinctively caught them.
"Ah, it’s so spicy, my eyes."
"Ah, my eyes are so spicy, it hurts."
Behind the eaves and up on the hill, a young man was passing by. He had been catching frogs nearby, using a flashlight at night to scan the fields or mountain pathways, often gathering a significant haul in one evening.
As he passed by Zhao Hu’s house, he noticed something unusual and suspected Zhao Hu was up to no good. He stealthily circled to the back of the eaves to see what was happening inside the house.
But it was nighttime, except for the moonlight in the sky, there were no lights inside the house; he could see no light at all.
However, from inside Zhao Hu’s house, he could hear voices of women and children, and it sounded like a fight was taking place.
This isn’t right, something is very wrong; he had to go back and tell the people in the village immediately.
The villagers were well aware of Zhao Hu’s character. Though usually involved in petty thefts, he occasionally robbed women and children passing by.
The year before last, he had kidnapped a woman into his house, which resulted in her family coming over and beating Zhao Hu half to death.
Since then, Zhao Hu had been subdued for a while, but it was said that recently, he had been misbehaving again.
Thinking of this, the young man left Zhao Hu’s house as quickly as he could and headed towards the village.
"Uncle Dog." The young man found one person in the village whom Zhao Hu particularly feared. Speaking of which, Uncle Dog was Zhao Hu’s cousin, and when Zhao Hu misbehaved, Uncle Dog disciplined him without any mercy. Because of this, Zhao Hu feared Uncle Dog and behaved himself whenever Uncle Dog was around.
Uncle Dog was about to sleep when he heard Zhao Qinghua’s voice and opened the door to look at Zhao Qinghua, "Qinghua, it’s so late, has the frog hunting gone well?"
"Uncle Dog, when I was catching frogs just now, I passed by Zhao Hu’s house, and I heard the voices of women and children inside. It seemed like there was also a fight going on inside. Uncle Dog, I thought there might be something wrong, so I came to tell you about it, to see if we should go have a look." Zhao Qinghua was not entirely sure there was a problem at Zhao Hu’s house, but Zhao Hu had long been known as a troublemaker in the village.
"That damned fool." Uncle Dog turned around and closed the door, "Come on, call a few people and go with me to check it out; we can’t let him cause trouble."
Soon, several villagers followed Uncle Dog towards Zhao Hu’s house.
"Uncle Dog." One villager looked at Zhao Hu’s doorstep, "Something seems off. It looks like there’s a car."
"Indeed, Zhao Hu wouldn’t have gotten acquainted with some big shot, would he?"
"Let’s go and see. I’m his brother; I have to see who he’s mingling with. If he invites trouble, the whole village might suffer."
"We can’t just barge in . You guys wait here for me outside, I’ll enter from the back door to see what he’s up to."
Uncle Dog looked around to make sure no one was watching before circling to the back door, which could easily be pushed open.
Before he could push it open, he heard horrific sounds from inside, "Ah, my eyes are so spicy."
"My eyes hurt, I need water, where is the water?"
Uncle Dog’s steps to enter the house immediately halted, and his heart clenched; something terrible had happened, Zhao Hu must have gotten himself into big trouble, perhaps even plotting to gouge out someone’s eyes.
With a quick change of thought, he walked outside, "Qinghua, go to the village chief’s house and call the police. Tell them our village is about to witness a tragedy and they need to come quickly. You guys, come with me quickly to save them. That cursed Zhao Hu, it sounds like he’s trying to gouge out eyes."
The villagers shivered upon hearing this: "Uncle Dog, you can’t be serious."
"It sounds like it, we won’t know for sure until we go in and see, let’s go." Uncle Dog said, leading the way inside, and no matter what, they couldn’t allow Zhao Hu to commit a criminal act.
At Zhao Hu’s doorstep, Uncle Dog picked up a handy wooden stick, and each of the others also grabbed one to hold.
When Zhao Hu went crazy, he was known to wield a knife; they had to be prepared.
"Hu, you bast*rd, Hu." Uncle Dog shouted Zhao Hu’s name at the doorstep, "I hear noises, do you have guests over?"
"Water, give me water, my eyes hurt so bad, water, water, give me water." A man in black burst out of the door, crashing into Uncle Dog and grabbed his clothes, repeating one phrase, "Water, where’s the water, give me water."
Uncle Dog looked and saw that the man’s eyes were severely swollen, and there seemed to be blood flowing from his eyes. His heart sank; that despicable Zhao Hu, what was he up to now.
