Xiaofeng listened to what Gu Dabao said, her lips twitching, as she just wanted to try and get along with the little dragonfly as well as Dabao did.
It seemed that Dabao really could communicate with the little dragonfly.
The dragonfly could fly to Dabao’s shoulder but wouldn’t let her catch it. Clearly, the dragonfly knew Dabao posed no threat, but it perceived danger if it landed on her hand.
"I just wanted to see if I could catch it. That little dragonfly is so strange, why isn’t it afraid of you? I hadn’t even reached out, and it flew away," Xiaofeng said with a hint of regret, she had thought she would be able to catch it.
"Because we’re both little kids," Gu Dabao said solemnly, "Because we are children, the little dragonfly is extra friendly to me and my sister."
"So that’s how it is," Xiaofeng nodded, "Let’s go down the mountain later and play with them, we’ll go up the mountain first to see if there’s any game."
"Mom, we’re going up the mountain to find some game to bring back,"
"Okay, we’ll roast some later."
"Yay, yay," Gu Xiaobao was very happy.
This place was sparsely populated, deep in the mountains, with few visitors. The mountains didn’t have much else, but there was no shortage of mushrooms.
Having grown up in the countryside, Xiaofeng naturally knew which mushrooms were edible and which were not.
Luck seemed to be on their side. Not only did they find mushrooms, Yecheng even caught a little rabbit.
The little rabbit was fluffy, white, and especially cute.
Gu Xiaobao was very fond of the little rabbit. Hearing that her parents were going to kill it, she was heartbroken, "Dad, let it stay, please. I no longer want to eat rabbit meat. Look how cute it is; could you really bear to eat such a cute animal?"
Gu Dabao conversed with the rabbit.
"Little rabbit, how old are you?"
"I’m almost one year old. Are you going to eat me?" the rabbit trembled with fear.
"Not necessarily, you see my sister really likes you. If she can convince my parents, I’m sure you won’t be eaten."
"How can you understand what I’m saying?" The little rabbit was very curious, "I’ve never met anyone who could understand our speech."
"I’m not sure myself," Gu Dabao stroked its fur, "Are you alone? Do you have any companions or anything?"
"My parents were caught by people, and I have many friends, but right now, they’re certainly all hiding."
Meanwhile, Gu Xiaobao continued persuading Gu Dabao, "Dad, Mom, I really little rabbit. Can I take it home with us? I want to raise it with my brother."
Hearing her daughter’s words, Xiaofeng softened entirely, "But, rabbits can bite, you know. Are you not afraid?"
While rabbits are mostly docile, there’s a saying, "Even a cornered rabbit will bite," which means, when desperate, rabbits can bite too.
"I’ll talk to it. If it agrees to follow me, can we keep it?" Xiaobao gently stroked the rabbit’s white fur, unwilling to let go.
It was so soft, so cuddly, she loved it so much.
She didn’t like cats and dogs that much.
But this little rabbit, she liked very much.
The rabbit, as if it understood Gu Xiaobao’s words, nuzzled Gu Xiaobao’s cheek with its mouth. Xiaobao giggled happily and hugged the rabbit tightly, her face brimming with joy.
"Acheng, since our daughter loves the little rabbit so much, let’s not eat it. Let’s keep it to accompany them,"
"If my daughter likes it, of course, I’ll keep it. Let’s go, Dad will make you mushroom soup today."
"Thank you, Dad and Mom." Gu Xiaobao hugged the rabbit and sweetly thanked her parents with a smile.
Gu Dabao said to the rabbit, "See, my parents are good people."
"Your whole family are good people."
Having collected quite a few mushrooms and gained a little rabbit, they naturally made their way back to where they were staying, not venturing any further up the mountain.
"Big brother, let’s name it Dabao, okay? Look how white it is. It’s going to be my playmate from now on, of course, you can borrow it to play for a while if you want." Gu Xiaobao combed the rabbit’s fur, her focused demeanor was adorable.
"I don’t even like these little animals; they’re rather annoying to look at." Gu Dabao looked disdainfully at the rabbit for a moment
"Let’s call it Xiaobai, or how about Bai Youbai? Doesn’t it sound nice?"
"Okay, let’s call it Bai Youbai." Xiaobao found the name Bai Youbai to her liking.
The rabbit, listening to the twin siblings’ conversation, was at a loss for words.
Bai Youbai, it doesn’t quite sound like a name.
Well, never mind, as long as it was alive, its name wasn’t important. What mattered was that Gu Dabao could understand what it said.
