Granny Zhang felt happy hearing these words. After living so many years in loneliness, she thought about doing more good deeds, maybe then her sons could be reincarnated into better families.
Now, because of her own kind acts, she got Xinyan as a lovely granddaughter. Although they weren’t blood-related, they truly regarded each other as family.
To be honest, she’s really not afraid of anything anymore.
Those distant relatives who failed to take advantage of her before became enemies. The words said in front of neighbors back then were still vivid in her memory.
Even though she knew that even if one day she left to reunite with her late husband and sons, the government wouldn’t leave her uncared for, the bitterness and anxiety in her heart were only known to herself.

After dinner, Xinyan went out for a bit, then came back carrying lots of bags in her hands.
She even startled Granny Zhang, who was talking to Grandma Tong: "What are these things you’re carrying, young girl?"
Xinyan pouted, "My hands are getting sore from carrying these. Please help me."
Grandma Tong, who was visiting next door, slapped her knee: "Oh my goodness, where did all this stuff come from?"
The two elderly ladies chatted as they hurried to take the items from Xinyan’s hands.
After setting down the things, Xinyan smiled and said, "Isn’t it getting cold? I thought Granny Zhang should have some winter clothes made. This is the fabric and cotton I previously asked someone to buy, along with two pairs of shoes.
Mainly, I’m afraid if I buy ready-made clothes that the size might not fit, then I’d have to return them. So I thought, why not buy fabric and cotton and make them according to your size? You can make whatever style you like and wear them comfortably."
Old Mrs. Tong heard Xinyan’s words and said with envy, "Old sister, what good fortune you have, Xinyan is such a filial girl."
Granny Zhang couldn’t be more pleased, but thinking about the cost of these items, "Young girl, don’t I have a few padded jackets already? I don’t go out often, wearing a few layers is just fine."
Xinyan put her hand on Granny Zhang’s shoulder, "I already said that bringing you over is for you to enjoy life. Besides, I have the means now; don’t be stingy about the money, just secretly delight in it."
Old Mrs. Tong laughed and chimed in, "Old sister, listen to the child."
Xinyan took out the cotton and fabric, "This fabric can make four sets of clothes and pants. I thought about making three quilted and one padded jacket. Don’t be reluctant to use the cotton; it’s definitely more than enough for four sets."
Granny Zhang looked at the items laid out, four different fabrics. There were two pieces of cotton fabric, one gray, one indigo; a piece of camel hair fabric and a piece of dark blue tarpaulin fabric.
Granny Zhang saw that the fabric was more than enough for one set, worrying, "You spendthrift, how come you didn’t ask, this extra fabric is wasting money!"
Xinyan intentionally bought an extra half meter but couldn’t say so directly, so she coaxed, "I thought if it ever tears in the future, the leftover fabric can be used for patches. Otherwise, it might be hard to find the same fabric then."
Upon hearing Xinyan’s words, there was no longer room for any reproach.
Old Mrs. Tong stroked the fabric, "I don’t have much to do these days. I’ll come over and help you make the clothes."
Before Granny Zhang could refuse, Xinyan agreed on her behalf, "That’d be great. The small stove is already lit, and the house is warm. You can sew and chat at the same time. How wonderful."
