Reborn in the Survival Adventure Game Chapter 13

Caelen sat on a stump, staring at the mine entrance like it owed him money. Dirt clung to his clothes, his arms were sore from the last dig, and Sparkfin had somehow gotten more feathers on his floor than on his body.

Still, progress was progress.

He leaned back and tapped his temple.

Search (2/20): Google, scan for metals and caves nearby.

[Detected: Large iron deposit – 25 meters northeast, underground.]

[Also Detected: Cave system – 30 meters east. Caution advised: Unknown contents.]

He whistled. "Iron and a cave? Is it my birthday?"

Sparkfin chirped like, You're still in a monster-infested forest, genius.

"Relax, bird. I'll just go get the iron. Caves are for tomorrow's anxiety."

Mission: Get iron

With his copper shovel and torch-on-a-stick, Caelen descended the ladder into the depths of his mine. Every step down creaked like it might give up on life. He winced and muttered, "One day I'll make real stairs. Fancy ones. With carpet."

As he reached the dig site, he adjusted direction slightly to the northeast, swinging his shovel with the enthusiasm of someone who definitely did not stretch beforehand.

Five minutes in, he was drenched in sweat.

Ten minutes later, his shovel hit a rock and bounced back, smacking his shin.

"ARGH—okay, okay, iron mining is pain. Got it."

The soil changed as he dug deeper. It became stubborn, packed tighter than a dragon's hoard.

Every swing of the shovel sent vibrations up his arms. The copper edge was already getting dull.

Clunk. Thunk. Clang.

The sounds echoed in the narrow space. He wiped dirt from his forehead with the back of his hand and sighed, then looked at the wall of compacted soil ahead.

"Of course. Why would the iron be in the easy dirt?"

He tried using his copper pickaxe instead—less elegant, more brute force.

Durability dropping: 70%... 65%... 60%

Caelen growled. "I'm burning through this thing like it's made of breadsticks."

Then, finally—clink.

He paused. Tapped again.

Clink. Clink.

He grinned. "Found you."

Bigger Than Expected

Caelen carefully cleared the surrounding area and uncovered a glittering, reddish-gray vein running through the stone.

[Discovered: Iron Ore Vein – Yield: High]

"YES!" He fist-pumped so hard he accidentally smacked the tunnel ceiling. Dirt trickled down into his hair.

He got to work. Slowly. Painfully. Chipping away one chunk at a time, torchlight flickering and sweat dripping into his eyes.

Every now and then he had to pause to sharpen his pickaxe with a rock.

"This," he grunted, mid-swing, "is not how I imagined heroism."

Sparkfin eventually glided down with a leaf snack and an expression that screamed, Why are you like this?

The Haul

After what felt like hours, Caelen finally had a sack full of ore and sore muscles to match.

[Iron Ore x6]

He sat on a rock, gasping. "Six? All that for six?"

Sparkfin chirped as if to say, You missed leg day, didn't you.

Back to Base

Climbing back up the ladder with a full sack of ore was a mini-game in itself. Halfway up, he slipped and nearly dropped everything.

"This is why dwarves don't skip rope," he muttered.

Finally reaching the top, he hauled himself onto solid ground and laid flat on his back.

"I'm officially adding an elevator to my wishlist."

Smelting With Style

Back in his shelter, he tossed the iron into his stone furnace, loaded it with fuel, and lit it.

The fire roared to life.

Sparkfin fluttered around in excitement, landing nearby to warm his wings.

Caelen sat back and watched the iron melt down. The glow of the furnace was strangely comforting.

Eventually:

[Smelted: Iron Ingot x4]

He rubbed his hands together. "Okay, let's get some real tools going."

Tool Upgrade Time

Using his upgraded workbench, he carefully crafted:

Iron Pickaxe – finally, something worthy of hitting rocks and his pride.

Iron Dagger – a shiny "just in case" surprise for goblins or rogue mushrooms.

[Crafted: Iron Tools]

[Inventory updated]

He spun the dagger in his hand like a low-budget action hero. "Now we're mining with style.

That night, Caelen stared out from his second floor window, the forest calm under the moonlight. The flicker of fireflies danced just beyond the tree line.

But his mind kept going back to the cave.

"Thirty meters east," he whispered. "Could be treasure. Could be a deathtrap."

He tapped his temple again.

Search (3/20): Google, is there movement inside that cave?

[Scan active... No current signs of life detected. Cave appears dormant.]

He narrowed his eyes. "That's either good news... or bait."

Sparkfin fluttered down and curled up beside him.

Caelen smiled. "Alright. We'll go tomorrow. After breakfast. And maybe after I figure out how to make armor out of leftover bowls or something."
