Writing a letter to Gu Haojun?
Gu Chunmei looked at her niece in surprise, frowning more the longer she looked.
No wonder she had never thought much of Wang Meili since they were young.
Just look at how she turned a nice little girl into a tomboy.
Not only was her hair cut short, but her clothes were also loose and large, and the dull color was one thing, but they didn’t even bother to fit her properly.
She just didn’t believe Gu Juan dressed like that.
Gu Lingling noticed Gu Chunmei always staring at her clothes, but she didn’t avoid it; she had deliberately worn this outfit to show Chun Mei.
"Auntie, this is a letter I wrote to my brother. Can you take a look?" Gu Lingling handed the opened letter to Gu Chunmei.
Gu Haojun is in the military, and in these times, their letters have to be reviewed before they can reach him.
Gu Chunmei took the letter and read it.
Gu Lingling didn’t write anything special in the letter, just that she had realized her past immaturity, wanted to study hard now that she was grown-up, hoped her brother would also train well and protect the country, take care of himself, and that everything was fine at home.
"Our little girl has grown up too." Gu Chunmei said with relief and couldn’t help but mention when she glanced at Gu Lingling’s hair again, "But now that you’re growing up, you should let your hair grow longer."
"I want to grow it out too." Gu Lingling said, fiddling with her sleeve.
What she said had a hint of artfulness.
She wanted to, but Wang Meili wouldn’t allow it. Whenever her hair grew a bit longer, she’d cut it with scissors.

"Alright, I’ll talk to your dad about this later." Gu Chunmei thought for a moment and said.
"Auntie, I want to add one more line to the letter. Could I give it to you after you’re about to leave?" Gu Lingling said softly.
The letter still had another purpose if it stayed with her for a while.
"Sure, my Lingling writes so beautifully." Gu Chunmei said with a smile, "When you’re on summer vacation, Auntie will bring you to my place so you can teach your little brother how to write."
"No problem." Gu Lingling beamed with a brilliant smile and said.
Gu Chunmei thought to herself.
Gu Lingling was the spitting image of her mother, no wonder her second brother wasn’t fond of her.
Still, some things needed to be said.
Gu Chunmei asked about Gu Lingling’s illness, and Gu Lingling said it was just a minor cold, so Chunmei didn’t think much and just reminded her to take care of herself before leaving the room.
As soon as she stepped out, she saw Old Mrs. Gu, Wang Meili, and Gu Chunhai walking toward the yard together.
"Why are you back? Where’s Chaoyang?" Old Mrs. Gu asked her youngest daughter with a smile, "I thought you weren’t off today?"
The transformer factory’s rest days were on a rotation, one day a week.
"I switched my day off with someone else, and Chaoyang is at home." Gu Chunmei replied.
"What’s wrong? Had a fight with Laishi?" Old Mrs. Gu asked, "I’m just saying, Laishi has such a good temper, you should really work on yours."
"Mom, why don’t you ever wish me well?" Gu Chunmei said with a chuckle tinged with anger, "Laishi and I are fine, so stop imagining things. But some folks’ daughters really impressed me today; I lost face at the factory."
By the end of the sentence, Gu Chunmei’s voice turned cold.
She looked at Wang Meili with eyes sharp as daggers.
