Even as a doctor, Ronan didn’t get the meaning in his words instantly. It was only after a while that the realization dawned on him and his lips curled in disgust, ’’Heh~ I wish you luck then.’’
"Ah?" Kade blinked, a little spooked out.
’’I doubt your brother is done with you, after all!’’
Ella stared at the official email from the university. Her head throbbed.
It has been a week since that incident.
Since that day, she had not seen Adrian.
Esther had not visited the mansion nor had she contacted her. Instead, she kept badgering Rin to know everything that happened.
Rin came clean to Ella about everything. On Ella’s orders, she told Esther that Adrian and Ella fought that day.
Ella had done it on purpose so she could catch a breather and focus on her weight loss journey instead.
With her injury, morning runs were out. Heavy workouts, impossible. So she shifted tactics—trimming portions, choosing healthier meals instead.
However, trouble comes knocking when you least expect it.
With a wag of his tail, the puppy spun and plopped down, offering his fluffy back like a royal decree.
’’How smart you are...’’ Ella bit her lips but eventually gave in the temptation to stroke the puppy.
But when her gaze flitted across to her open laptop screen again, she groaned and closed it.
Since this was the final year, the university had started a new initiative and decided to do some cleaning in order to kick out the academic failures like ’her’ who barely went to classes and failed in most or all exams, including the supplementary exams.
So, this mail was not directly addressed to her but rather, it was addressed to all ’failures’ like her who would be cleansed out of the university a month later after the mid-semester exams.
After looking at the laptop screen for a long time, Ella stood up.
’’This cannot continue.’’
Ella glanced at the puppy, ’’Let’s go. I will take you to see your father!"
The puppy blinked, visibly confused.
’’Miss Yu, are you heading out?" Bertha approached her, visibly nervous.
She noticed how beautifully Ella was dolled up in a baby blue dress.
Perhaps it was her diet change or her current rest, her skin looked supple. Some faint acne marks she had before had also faded. Her skin seemed to glow inside out. She looked like a bleached bao bun.
In her arms, she held the brown puppy who had two pink bows tied to both his ears.
Bertha sighed imperceptibly. Because of her daughter’s grave mistake, she could not really afford to offend Ella.
But regardless of anything, she did not dare to betray Adrian. If Ella planned to run away, then she could only do so over her dead body.
Since the woman’s face displayed subtitles, Ella was not clueless about her worries.
"Just a regular hubby visit!" Ella beamed.
Bertha’s soul nearly left her body.
’’AH?!" Bertha went blank. Wait... ’’Miss Yu, isn’t Master on a business trip?"
’’Dr. Knight, what should we do now?" Ji Yan was anxious, ’’Second Master has barely slept or eaten anything in the past week. How long can he push through it with his current condition?"
Ronan sat on the couch in Adrian’s office, visibly helpless, ’’I tried taking him out yesterday but it did not result in anything good.’’
Just the mention of it made Ji Yan’s face resemble a rotten eggplant, ’’The second master is averse to all women except Miss Yu so it was to be expected. It only triggered his condition even more and now...’’
Ronan fell speechless. He would have blamed it on Kade’s antics but it was a normal approach outside. People get over one relationship by hooking up with another person.
Except, such approaches were futile against someone as hard headed as Adrian who had sealed off his heart for everyone.
’’At this rate, I am afraid he will collapse. And when that happens...’’ Ji Yan staggered, not daring to think in that direction.
"I told him to stay away from that woman. Nothing good really came out of staying with that little devil!" Ronan massaged his forehead.
He was sought out as the number 1 doctor but Adrian’s condition made him feel like a quack time and time again.
The man had a visceral reaction to most of the things and that came with destructive tendencies.
He did not particularly have insomnia but his sleeping disorders were enough to make a person crazy.
And worst of it all, these issues were all psychological but Adrian refused to open his heart to anyone.
At this moment, there were sounds of approaching footsteps outside Adrian’s office.
The door was suddenly pushed open.
Ji Yan frowned, ’’Who dares...’’
’’Ah, it’s me!" Ella stood at the door, a huge smile on her face and a demurely dressed puppy in her arms.
Ji Yan: "_" I know you dare.... I really do... wuwuwu...
’’You... What are you doing here?" Seeing Ji Yan’s plight, Ronan stood up to help him.
’’I am here to see my hubby!" Ella batted her eyelashes.
Ronan clutched his chest. This change was too abrupt. How did this woman become so tame suddenly?
Also, why did she even look more different than the last time he saw her in the mansion? His eyes must be playing tricks, huh!
’’Don’t you know pets are not allowed in the King Empire? How did they not stop you?"
Ji Yan closed his eyes.
"That’s because..." Ella patted the puppy. "The last person who tried, doesn’t work here anymore."
Checkmate! Ronan flinched mentally. He cleared his throat, ’’Anyways, you should leave now. Ace is not here.’’
Ella’s smile dropped a bit. She turned to look at Ji Yan.
Ji Yan nodded slowly, ’’Second master... hasn’t come back from the business trip yet...’’
’’I see...’’ A hint of disappointment flickered on the girl’s face but then she turned around and left.
Once she was gone, both the men sighed in relief. They exchanged gazes, ’’It’s good that she doesn’t know about it...’’ Ronan said.
