Late at night, Shi Lan, with one hand on the Ferrari, was watching the materials and videos sent to her by Huo Zhao.
In just these few short days, Huo Zhao’s phone had already accumulated a large amount of material. Some of it was from tracking, and some of it was gathered from within the Shi Family’s businesses.
For instance, important meetings where Shi Mother was intentionally tripped up so she couldn’t attend.
Then at the board meetings, they painted Shi Mother’s private life as chaotic.
All the important invitations from the Shi Family skipped over Shi Mother, and now, none of the subordinates in the company would follow Shi Mother’s arrangements when doing their work.
Just like that, within a short year, the Shi Family had blatantly sidelined Shi Mother.
From time to time, they still orchestrated some accidents.
Like when she was on a business trip, the car would break down.
In the food, slow-acting poisons that negated each other would occasionally be found.
Sleeping pills were swapped out for blood pressure medication, and so on.
In such a life, lived under constant threat, it was no wonder Shi Mother was going mad.
After Shi Lan finished going through the materials, she thought that if Shi Mother had been a bit more vigilant in the past and learned from the way she handled some of the Shi Family’s cases, she wouldn’t have been bullied to this extent. But what could she do, all alone with her daughter and husband gone?
What’s most essential is that the Shi Family had previously suffered under Shi Lan’s torment, and now, they were probably returning the favor double-fold upon Shi Mother.
Having thought it through, Shi Lan turned off the video, tossed aside the materials, and then, in the darkness, dialed the phone number that President Yan had given her.
After three rings, a weary voice came from the other end of the phone, "Hello."
It had been a year since mother and daughter had last spoken, even then it was a fierce argument. Suddenly hearing this voice now felt surreal.
"Mrs. Shi, I’m Yan Shixiu’s new bride. I suppose you’d really like to see me?"
"Vixen, cut the crap, just set the place!"
Shi Lan chuckled softly, then recited the address of a hotel she used to frequent.
Although she didn’t care about Shi Mother’s wellbeing, she couldn’t let the no-good lot of the Shi Family bully her too cruelly. After all, there was a difference between one’s own people and outsiders.
Late at night at Peak, the place was brightly lit.
After handling business with the artists, Sun Ling walked out of the company and saw Gu Zheng waiting outside.
"Thanks to you, my car is still not retrieved. Little junior sister, shouldn’t you take responsibility? How about it? Care to go for a drink?"
With her hands drooping, Sun Ling smiled, approached Gu Zheng, and said, "It seems tonight, you’re intent on clinging to me?"
"Exactly," Gu Zheng said, spreading his hands, "Isn’t it a great fortune in life to be accompanied by a handsome guy?"
"I just so happen to need a driver; let’s go," Sun Ling said with a suggestive smile.
Gu Zheng felt a moment of daze, suddenly thinking that he, a veteran of the love game, was a bit unable to handle this inscrutable little junior sister.
A moment later, Sun Ling fetched her car and handed the keys to Gu Zheng. "Come on."
Then, she took a seat in the back.
Gu Zheng immediately protested, "Little junior sister, isn’t this going too far? Making me your driver?"
"I’m tired, the place I want to go is already sent to your phone, please, senior," she responded.
Gu Zheng glanced at Sun Ling in the rearview mirror, chuckled softly, and thought, this girl surely doesn’t have just two faces – clearly, her heart conceals even more intriguing layers.
"Aren’t you afraid that I’ll drive the car straight into the woods, or, say, back to my place?"
With her eyes half-closed, Dr. Sun said, "You’re not the type to use force; you love conquering women and relish in their voluntary pleasure. Going by force – that would be low. Isn’t that the type that you self-proclaimed charmers despise the most?"
