Chapter 96: Why did you come?
When Shi Lan left, she wore her hat and given that the hotel had fewer people at night, nobody knew that Shi Lan had gone to the airport ahead of time.
The driver who dropped her off was a woman, a detail carefully considered by Sun Ling, given that a female boss could handle anyone barehanded and also, they used GPS for the whole trip.
By the time Shi Lan reached the airport, it was already half past ten at night.
Since the airport was not large, as soon as Shi Lan entered through gate four, she spotted Yan Shixiu in the lounge area, still in the same outfit from the day, his cap buttoned up, a laptop on his lap, apparently dealing with work matters.
Shi Lan pushed her suitcase over and sat down next to him, “Doesn’t the big CEO and the little star look a bit miserable?”
Yan Shixiu pushed Shi Lan’s suitcase beside him, then turned and asked, “Why did you come?”
“Didn’t you say I now have an excuse to hug you? Since we’re both stuck in this godforsaken place, why should I pass up a real pillow? Are there still flights? Let’s change it, and leave on the same one,” Shi Lan brazenly said. “Moreover, Tang Ze will release the news tomorrow. I’m afraid Chen Beini’s fans might tear me apart after the flight, so coming back to Yancheng earlier might lessen the trouble.”
The sudden openness from the young lady only caused an explosion of fireworks in Yan Shixiu’s mind. After savoring the pleasure, he closed his laptop, pushing Shi Lan’s suitcase and pulling her towards the counter.
However, this was the last flight for the day, and rebooking could only change it to 5:30 AM the next morning.
“Otherwise, should you proceed with the original plan?” Shi Lan shrugged.
Yan Shixiu took out his phone and made a call to the assistant waiting in the terminal, “Get my luggage out, you go back to Yancheng, postpone tomorrow morning’s meeting.”
Soon after, the assistant delivered Yan Shixiu’s luggage. Originally, he intended to book a hotel for them, but all nearby accommodations were fully booked, even the inns had no beds left.
“Otherwise, shall I call a car to take you back to the previous hotel?” the assistant suggested.
“No need,” Shi Lan yawned. “Let’s make do on the chairs for a few hours. It’s too much hassle going back and forth.”
Then, after sending the assistant away and going through security again, they boarded the plane around midnight.
The two who changed their tickets entered the waiting hall after security.
Shi Lan, having worked all day, was already tired, and now, leaning on Yan Shixiu’s shoulder, she almost fell asleep immediately.
Yan Shixiu, with one arm around her and the other working on his laptop checking emails.
This should be something all couples do, very ordinary, but for Shi Lan and Yan Shixiu, it had never happened before.
Because they didn’t have a good start.
But now… it seemed they did.
In the evening, Yan Shixiu had pushed Shi Lan a bit, thinking she might retract back into her shell, waiting for him to continue his efforts to get close, but he really didn’t expect Shi Lan to actually chase him to the airport.
Actually, Shi Lan was also annoyed, following her heart last night as if she had unleashed some flood beast.
It was out of her control, leaving her nearly panicked, but, leaning on Yan Shixiu, she returned to being calm.
So, she put aside those chaotic emotions for the time being, followed her heart, the rest could wait until tomorrow.
At four-thirty in the morning, Yan Shixiu woke Shi Lan. There were very few passengers in the airport, perhaps a dozen or so.
“Go wash your face; we’re preparing to board,” Yan Shixiu said softly, looking at Shi Lan with her eyes red from tiredness, “You can sleep after we board.”
Shi Lan, being awoken, was initially annoyed, but hearing Yan Shixiu’s voice right beside her, her irritation faded, “Wait for me.”
Yan Shixiu, pushing their suitcases, waited for Shi Lan to come out, then took her by the shoulder, “You got a text after you fell asleep.”
Shi Lan took out her phone from her bag.
A strange number: “An Lan, all smooth? Do you need me to arrange a pickup?”
Shi Lan sneered, was this asshole doing this all along, flirting with Chen Beini on one side and stringing An Lan along on the other?
