Reincarnated as the Villain: The System Made Me Overpowered Chapter 16

The chamber was breaking apart.

Marble cracked. Ancient runes dimmed. The once-sacred walls of the Obsidian Conclave groaned as if mourning their own collapse.

And at the center of it all stood Valerian, sword in hand, face bloodied, heart racing. Opposite him—wreathed in swirling ash and cold clarity—was the Original. The man who had once been him.

"You look surprised," the Original said, his voice calm, timeless. "You should be grateful. You've exceeded expectations. Most vessels don't last this long."

"Don't flatter me," Valerian snapped. "You orchestrated everything. My death. My resurrection. The system. Why?"

The Original tilted his head. "Because the gods turned their faces away. The world needed a new hand to guide it. So I gave it one—me."

Valerian gritted his teeth. His hand trembled around his sword, not from fear—but fury. "And I was just a puppet. A means to unlock the system you couldn't control?"

"No." The Original's eyes narrowed. "You were the key. A perfect duplicate. You had to believe you were real. Only then could the system evolve."

Lightning crackled in the air between them. Tension born from cosmic betrayal and fractured identity.

Valerian didn't speak.

Steel met steel with a thunderclap. The clash sent shockwaves through the chamber, toppling statues of forgotten archmages and ancient heroes. The two fought like mirrored ghosts—strikes that countered, parried, and mirrored each other down to the twitch of a finger.

But there was something different now.

Valerian wasn't fighting to survive.

He was fighting to be real.

"You left me to rot," he shouted, driving the Original back with a series of brutal slashes. "You thought I'd crumble like all your other fragments!"

"I designed you to," the Original growled, his sword igniting with red flame. "You were never meant to awaken."

"Then maybe you're not as omnipotent as you thought."

The Original roared and counterattacked. His strikes were relentless, powered by raw data magic and twisted logic. But Valerian moved with something deeper—something the system couldn't code:

Their swords locked. A pulse rippled through the sanctum.

> [System Alert: Dual Host Conflict Reaching Critical Level]

[Stability: 14%... 9%... 4%...]

A jagged tremor cracked the floor beneath them. From the fissures, a violet mist rose—unnatural and hungry. The system was breaking apart from the inside. Their battle was unraveling the very code that held the world's magic in place.

"You're going to destroy everything," Valerian hissed.

"That's the point!" the Original snapped. "This world is a prison! The gods locked it away! The Final Gate... it leads to truth. To freedom."

"To annihilation," Valerian said. "I've seen what lies behind the Gate. You weren't trying to save the world. You wanted to escape it."

The Original faltered, just slightly.

Valerian shouted, "Emerge!"

A vortex of shadow erupted beside him—and Umbra stepped out, obsidian blade drawn. But this time, he wasn't alone.

Another entity emerged.

Born not of death, but defiance.

It was taller than any summon Valerian had ever called. Clad in fractured armor, its face a void with only one burning sigil: V.

> [New Summon: Revenant Shade – Bound by Wrath and Will]

[Summon Loyalty: 100% – Trueborn]

[System Stability Recalibrating...]

"What is that?" the Original demanded, stepping back.

Valerian's voice was cold. "Something you never had—something you couldn't fabricate. Me."

He pointed forward. "Umbra. Revenant. Destroy him."

The two shadows lunged. Umbra moved like a silent reaper, cutting through the remnants of the system's defense protocols. The Revenant Shade followed, limbs distorting like living smoke, its blade cutting space itself.

The Original was fast—but not fast enough.

Steel bit into his shoulder.

He screamed and unleashed a shockwave of raw code, momentarily freezing the summons in place. But Valerian was already on him.

Their swords met again, and this time, Valerian's strength pushed through.

"Do you know what it's like," Valerian growled, "to be told you don't exist? To live knowing every breath, every step, every choice was engineered?"

The Original bled—his own magic beginning to unravel.

"I made you strong," he spat. "You should thank me."

"No," Valerian said. "You made a mistake."

He drove his sword forward—straight into the Original's core.

The chamber flickered. Code unraveled from the Original's body like dust. His form began to disintegrate, pixel by pixel. His final words echoed:

"You think you've won... but the Gate is opening. The truth is coming. You'll see, Valerian. You'll see why I had to become the villain..."

And then he was gone.

> [System Conflict Resolved]

[Primary Host: Confirmed – VALERIAN]

[New Title Acquired: "System Sovereign"]

[Warning: Gate Activation Sequence Initiated]

Valerian staggered, panting. His blade clattered to the ground.

The summons kneeled beside him, silent sentinels.

He looked at his hands—still trembling from the clash. But it wasn't fear anymore.

> [System Core Fully Synchronized]

[Final Objective Revealed: The Gate of Endings – Location: Skyfall Citadel]

[Estimated Time to Gate Breach: 72 Hours]

Umbra spoke first, voice steady. "My lord... what will you do?"

Valerian stared at the broken Conclave, the fading lights, and the knowledge that the final Chapter had already begun.

"We go to Skyfall," he said. "We end this. One way or another."

As he turned, the entire chamber began to collapse behind him. But Valerian didn't flinch.

The shadow that had once been a pawn was now a king.

And the world had no idea what was coming.

The wind howled over the crumbled remains of the Obsidian Conclave.

Valerian stood atop the obsidian cliffs overlooking the valley below, his dark cloak fluttering like a banner of defiance. Behind him, the ruins smoldered—buried beneath stone, shattered wards, and the fading pulse of ancient magic.

But there was no victory in his heart.

Not when the Gate was counting down.

"Seventy-two hours," Valerian murmured, the wind carrying his voice into the void. "That's all the time this world has left before everything changes."

Umbra stood beside him, kneeling with silent loyalty. The Revenant Shade hovered nearby, fading in and out of visibility like a ghost searching for meaning.

Lira's voice cut through the silence. "You didn't tell us it would come to this."
