Reincarnated as the Villain: The System Made Me Overpowered Chapter 35

Out of thin air stepped a tall figure cloaked in robes of silver and smoke. Archmage Rhelos Varn, ageless, androgynous, and unnervingly calm, moved like mist over glass. Their skin was pale, their irises faintly glowing like dying stars.

"You broke the laws of reality," Rhelos said simply. "We came to study the damage. Or the miracle."

"You’re welcome," Valerian said dryly.

Lira whispered, "That one’s more ghost than mage."

Selene muttered back, "Don’t let them touch your mind. Virelians don’t knock before entering."

Rhelos smirked as if they heard every word.

And then came the rumble in the sky.

> "From the Accord of the Draconians, the Watchers descend."

Three figures dropped from above—scales gleaming, wings folding into humanoid forms. Their features were sharp, regal, inhuman. One wore a half-mask shaped like bone. Another carried a staff shaped like a broken comet.

The last—a tall, silver-scaled woman—watched Valerian without blinking.

Not of her—but of her aura. Familiar. Ancient.

> "I am Vexis of the Second Brood," she said. "We felt your scream tear through the leylines. We came to see the echo."

Valerian met her gaze. "You’ll find more than an echo. The cage is gone. The lock is broken."

"And what did it once hold?" she asked.

Each envoy took their throne, radiating power and tension.

Valerian stood at the center. No podium. No protection.

"The System that once governed this world is no more," he said, his voice low but resonant. "Its anchors are shattered. Its code rewritten."

He paused, letting the weight of those words sink in.

"But that was never the true enemy."

He looked at the sky—now cracked faintly with luminous fissures, like the skin of reality was flaking.

"The System was built to restrain something older. A force... or perhaps a being. One the Ancients feared enough to shackle the world."

Rhelos tilted their head. "And you believe this being still exists?"

"I know it," Valerian replied. "Because when I destroyed the final anchor, something looked back."

Kaede stood, her spear slamming into the dais. "You ask for unity, but offer only riddles and fear. Why should we follow you, Valerian? Who named you King?"

Lira stepped forward, but Valerian lifted a hand.

He faced Kaede fully.

"No one named me. I’m not asking for crowns or oaths. I’m offering truth—and a warning."

He summoned Vesperfang.

The blade flickered to life—its edge humming not with mana, but something deeper. Primal.

"I hold no titles. But I’ve bled for this world more than most kings. And I’ll bleed again if it means protecting what comes next."

Kaede stared him down.

Then—slowly—she smiled.

Then came the scream.

It wasn’t human. Not magic.

A sharp, jagged pulse of energy erupted from behind one of the envoy guards—a cloaked figure surged forward, hands glowing with corrupted glyphs.

"FOR THE ARCHITECT!" the assassin roared.

He hurled a shard of compressed spatial magic directly at Valerian’s heart.

But Valerian raised his gauntlet—and caught it.

The magic flared against his palm, detonating outward, yet bending around him like water around stone.

The glyphs on his skin—those faint, ancient runes—glowed once more.

> [Memory Imprint Unlocked.]

> [Fragment of the Origin Echo Initiated.]

He stood on a platform of obsidian stars, floating in a void of dying constellations.

Cities rose like black spires above collapsing suns. Rings of crystal encased moons. He saw shadows—giants cloaked in living equations—chanting in languages that broke logic.

And in the center of it all—a throne.

The assassin was gone—dissolved into dust. The envoys were silent.

Lira grabbed his arm. "Valerian?"

His gauntlet was glowing. And then—

> [New Directive Imprinted.]

> [You are the First Key.]

> [The Second Awakens in the East.]

> [Quest Accepted: Unseal the Echoes of Origin.]

That night, long after the summit ended, Valerian stood on the same cliff from before.

The stars above were no longer familiar. Their constellations had changed.

Selene joined him first. Then Lira.

Until he whispered, "...There’s more of me. Or more like me."

Selene asked, "Do you think they’re allies?"

He shook his head. "I think they’re worse."

Lira’s hand found his. "Then we’ll face them together."

Above them, in the sky, the cracks widened—softly pulsing.

Something beyond the stars had begun to stir.

And now, the world was listening.

Somewhere far from the political theatre of the Obsidian Conclave, beyond the eastern sand seas where the sun burned crimson and mana shimmered in the very air—

A child was screaming.

In the ruined temple of Ashkar the Hollow Flame, a storm of raw magic spiraled around a collapsed altar. Monks and sorcerers lay dead, their blood forming sigils across the stone floor—not by ritual, but by design.

At the eye of the devastation, a girl stood barefoot, her skin cracked like dry earth, glowing from within as though magma coursed through her veins.

Chains of light and shadow twisted around her wrists, pulsing like they were alive.

Split down the center, twin irises flickering between red and gold.

She screamed again, and the sound warped the walls themselves.

High above, cloaked mages watched from a hovering obsidian skiff.

One of them—a bald man with rune-burns on his cheeks—nodded slowly.

"It’s her. The Second Key."

Valerian’s war room — Obsidian Conclave

A magical projection hovered in the center of the chamber, showing grainy footage captured by a distant draconic familiar. The image looped over and over—a young girl surrounded by destruction, then vanishing in a flash of runic fire.

Selene narrowed her eyes. "You’re certain it wasn’t summoned?"

"No," said Lira, pacing. "There was no ritual. No summoner. The magic burst out of her."

Valerian leaned against the far wall, silent.

The system prompt still echoed in his mind:

> [The Second Awakens in the East.]

> [Her name is Aerin.]

> [Status: Incomplete Integration. Time until Collapse: 14 Days.]
