Throughout her life, Allison only saw a few people with such tranquil eyes that couldn't be bothered by anything, and they were usually those who had experienced a lot of things in their lifetime.
One of them happened to be her father, but even then, her father's age was quite high already.
Yet what about Xu Feng?
He was merely in his 20s, so what kind of experience must he deal with to have such eyes equivalent to her father?
Of course, no matter how hard Allison tried to rack her brain to think, she would never be able to guess that Xu Feng experienced more years and things than her father did.
At least in the current timeline and not the past timeline.
"Don't be mistaken, Allison." Xu Feng opened his mouth and softly spoke. "I didn't risk my life to protect you, but for myself."
Startled, Allison certainly did not expect such a response.
Usually, people in such circumstances and scenes would spout words such as "I cherish you" or "I care about you" to gain more favorable points.
However, Xu Feng's statement was essentially pouring a ton of cold water on a small wood fire.
Alas, it was such a pity because Allison was no ordinary woman either.
She nodded with a calm expression and pressed on. "How is risking yourself to the point of going to surgery, a way to protect yourself, Feng?"
"Don't worry about it." Xu Feng responded with the classic response that shut down any possible explanation required.
Unamused, Allison narrowed her eyes, her lips pursed, wanting nothing more than to strangle Xu Feng for his cheeky behavior.
However, the guilt that was still in her heart and mind prevented her from acting so.
'Ugh, he's definitely playing that guilty card against me.' Allison knew what he was up to, but this kind of move was very lethal and effective. Unless she wished to become known as ungrateful and wicked, then she could only swallow this grudge.
"Anyway, the city has been on lockdown. Those intruders would be caught sooner or later." Allison said, shifting the topic.
"Oh…" Xu Feng held an amused expression before shaking his head. "They won't be caught."
Astonished, she raised an eyebrow. "What makes you say that they wouldn't be caught? I have you know, my Uncle Alfred isn't an easy person to escape from."
"You'll see." With a brief smile, Xu Feng didn't bother to explain further. After all, it should have been obvious that these intruders were no ordinary people, especially when he recognized Vince.
Not to mention, the fact that they were able to enter Avalon City without being detected meant that there were insiders assisting them. Otherwise, how could they possibly escape all the surveillance and enter such private property?
Seeing his somewhat mysterious smile, Allison was about to say something until her phone made a buzzing sound.
Swiftly, she retrieved her phone and read the message.
"H-How did you know they would escape?" Her eyes widened in disbelief. "My Uncle just informed me that while following their trail, it suddenly disappeared after turning to a dead alley corner."
"You should be more concerned as to who approached you in the past few days or months. They must also be highly influential and connected." Xu Feng explained.
Such incidents had occurred so many times in his past timeline that he was numb to them already. It was also the reason why he was so adamant about security and privacy.
"Someone who approached me in the past?" Furrowing her brows, Allison began recalling all types of people she had interacted with. She was having a difficult time— not because she couldn't recall who, but because there were too many to count.
Meanwhile, Xu Feng had anticipated such a reaction and sighed softly. As much as he wanted to voice a few people out, he knew that would garner suspicions.
Thus, he decided to subtly hint something. "Have you been encountering people like that bozo, Ronald?"
"He's not a bozo." Allison cleared her throat and corrected.
"More like intellectually disabled." She continued.
"Pfft, you're right." Xu Feng had a good chuckle from it, only to realize his mistake as he coughed hard again.
"Okay, don't make me chuckle. I don't want to remain in the hospital for long." He smiled bitterly and said.
"Heh, I'm glad to see you well." Allison smiled genuinely and placed her hand on his orthopedic cast.
She then whispered to him. "I was truly worried so thank you for staying alive."
Nodding, he smirked and responded, "Now I would give you a pat on the hand to not worry, but as you can see, I can't do it."
He then raised his casts up and down, indicating that he could not even use his fingers or hands.
Suddenly, a somewhat embarrassing situation occurred as Xu Feng's stomach made a growling sound, clearly from being starved. He had not eaten any lunch yet since the time he went out to meet up with Allison. Following that was his loss of Energy Force, resulting in him lacking a ton of nutrients.
Meanwhile, the growling alerted Allison as she quickly turned around and glared at his nephew, Ning Yi.
"Ning Yi, bring me those things I told you to purchase earlier." She shouted loudly, startling Ning Yi as he nearly fell off from his chair.
Ning Yi breathed nervously and nodded.
"Yes, Aunt Allison." He said, quickly bringing the items over to Allison, afraid that she might become displeased with the delay. He was only relieved when he noticed that she wasn't furious at him.
'Why did Aunt have to shout at me? I thought I got in trouble again.' He patted his chest, trying to calm his nerves and emotion. In his life, aside from his father, the most frightening person was Allison.
Sure, she was usually gentle and sweet, but once angered, she was the equivalent of a devil from hell. Even his father had to back away when Allison went into furious mode, much less him.
