As Xu Feng subsequently revealed the fact that he knew about her identity, Rebecca's expression darkened. Her brows tensed up, clearly not anticipating someone to recognize her right away.
She turned to the guard, who quickly shook their head in response.
Without a doubt, the guard understood what her stare meant and he didn't want any misunderstandings.
"Miss, we might reveal some of the guests' names, but we never reveal it to others whose status is out of their reach." The guard explained in a subtle manner. But the general gist was that if they wanted to reveal Rebecca's identity, then the opposing person needed to be equivalent or superior in status.
And in Avalon City, there were only a handful of them. Not to mention, the people in front of them were youths, who clearly didn't have that kind of authority yet.
"You may return." Rebecca nodded and dismissed the guard. Though there were still noticeable traces of doubt in her eyes. It goes without saying that she would have this matter investigated.
If the guards in High Table Club seriously revealed her identity, then she didn't mind letting them have a taste of her wrath.
While Rebecca was distracted by the guard, Xu Feng also took the chance to give Zhao Kai a slap on his back.
"Come back to reality, Kai." He coolly said and took a seat next to Rebecca.
"Bartender, 3 of your best drinks. One of them is for Rebecca over here."
Startled, the bartender simply nodded their head and began doing their work in creating the drink.
"Who are you and how did you know I'll be here?" Cautious by nature, Rebecca narrowed her eyes and questioned solemnly.
"Do I look like a prophet?" Xu Feng chuckled in amusement. Sure, he could be close to it, but definitely not a legit one. If so, then he wouldn't have to work so hard every time to achieve his goal step by step.
So far, the timeline had been constantly changing because he took steps that he never took in the past timeline. And if he had to be honest, he hadn't regretted anything.
"You're not a prophet but you recognized me and even approached me. Would you be okay about it if the roles were reversed?" Rebecca asked, her eyes narrowing.
"This is a newly opened club, catered to the high-class. It would be a shocker if I didn't come for the hype. Secondly, your face isn't hidden. Anyone who has access to the higher-graded city would know who you are." Xu Feng took a sip of the alcohol that was placed in front of him by the bartender.
With his calm composure and subtle hints of a higher "graded city", Rebecca's tensed body visibly lowered a bit.
Indeed, she might be unknown to most of the unaware people in Avalon City, but that didn't mean she was well concealed. In other words, those who are truly at the top and have access to lots of information would know her identity.
"I suppose you have your points," Rebecca replied and pushed the new alcohol drink to the side. "But there's no need to treat me to alcohol. I can afford my own."
"I know." Xu Feng smirked. "That's why I ordered it for you in advance. You were drinking the same thing and about to run out, but you could get a refill right away thanks to me. Of course, using your own money."
"Pfft." Zhao Kai, who had started drinking the alcohol, nearly spat out the liquid in the process after hearing Xu Feng's response.
Even the bartender struggled a bit to remain composed and unaffected by the conversation.
As for Rebecca, she felt her face burning slightly from embarrassment. Never once did she anticipate that Xu Feng was such an unscrupulous man.
Who ordered drinks on behalf of others and not paid for them?
If that were the case, then couldn't everyone be saying they ordered these drinks on behalf of a table, inadvertently resulting in that table coughing up a ton of money to pay for those drinks?
Of course, it would most likely get resolved with the said culprit paying the price, but this was a high-class club. Even the name High Table Club should have been obvious in the business model it was going for.
Who behaved like that in the high class?
As the tension seemed to rise, it was quickly broken off by a voice from behind.
"Hmm, you also came here?" A bit taken aback, Xu Feng turned around and gazed at Allison.
"Did you two plan for a meeting here?" He then asked calmly, and a suspicious thought started to appear in his mind.
Sure enough, Allison reacted like a cat who got caught in the act. She tried to avoid Xu Feng's gaze, but it was really difficult to do so.
"Ah, I see you also came here to have fun, professor. And here I thought you are a studious type." Xu Feng suddenly clasped his hands and smiled widely.
As for Zhao Kai, he had sensed the atmosphere was weird ever since their encounter with Rebecca. Thus, he kept quiet and focused on drinking alcohol.
'I should have stayed home.' Zhao Kai realized his motive of meeting women with his bundle of cheesy pick-up lines seemed to be going further and further away.
Meanwhile, Allison was startled and quickly breathed a sigh of relief.
"Yes, I came here with my friend to take some relaxing days." She responded and greeted Rebecca. Inwardly though, she was sweating a lot, thinking that she got busted.
'Phew, so Feng didn't know I was investigating him on behalf of Rebecca. Right, it wouldn't make sense for him to connect the dots anyway.' Allison thought.
"He's your student?" Startled, Rebecca couldn't believe this unscrupulous man was a student of her friend. After all, she heard Xu Feng addressing Rebecca with the term "professor" earlier.
"Ah, that's not the case." Allison shook her head and explained, "He was technically supposed to be it but then he dropped out before I actually assumed the position."
