"Ahem, do you want to make a bet with me?" Xu Feng suddenly raised the question.
"A bet again?" Unamused, Zhao Kai was wondering what kind of scheme he was cooking up. Lately, Xu Feng has suggested many bets. Each and every time, he would end up losing the bet that he was completely certain of victory.
It was as if Xu Feng had been blessed with fortune while he accumulated all the misfortunes around the world.
"What, are you scared?" Xu Feng snickered coldly. He gazed at him up and down, almost as if saying he disdained his cowardice.
Almost immediately, Zhao Kai was infuriated by that kind of provocation.
Had it been anyone else doing such a low provocation trick, then he would have ignored them.
Nope, not a single chance would Zhao Kai allow this man to continue to gloat at him.
"Alright, what are we betting? You better not come crying when you lose!" He roared and his eyes flared in determination.
"Haha, didn't you have zero confidence with the allocation I made?" Xu Feng smiled and continued, "Then the bet is that the people I allocated would definitely return victorious."
"Fine, then what is the reward?"
"The reward is that the person can decide a thing that they must do regardless of their will. Of course, it's not something immoral or a crime."
"Deal!" Without even needing to confirm anything else, Zhao Kai directly shook hands to confirm the bet. After all, he had seen those people before and they were definitely far from capable of completing the commission.
Suddenly, he thought of a loophole that Xu Feng might do.
"Wait a minute." He raised his hand.
"What? Are you trying to renege on the bet?" Amused, Xu Feng was surprised that he wanted to quit right away.
"Who said anything about reneging?" Zhao Kai snorted coldly and stared at him.
He then pointed at him and warned, "You are not allowed to assist them whatsoever from this moment on. You can't send a message or even guidance or resources. No help is allowed!"
"Do you care more about the bet than the guild's future?" Xu Feng twitched and wondered where the concerned Zhao Kai went.
Just earlier, Zhao Kai was overly concerned and even came forward to ask if he needed a hand. Yet now that a bet was made, that concern seemed to have been devoured by a ruthless scumbag.
"I don't care. It's your fault for suggesting a bet, and I'll be a fool to let you cheat." Zhao Kai rolled his eyes. As much as he was concerned about the guild, there was one thing he was positive about. And that was the fact Xu Feng seemed to have already known the outcome.
Otherwise, he wouldn't have suggested a bet.
And since he was a great buddy, he might as well play along and just lose a meal to him. Previous bets were just him having to treat Xu Feng, so he reckoned it would be the same this time as well.
After all, Xu Feng could be considered an introvert. Unless required to be outside, Xu Feng would rather remain in his home.
A few seconds later, Xu Feng nodded and agreed to not even remind them.
The truth was that he wanted to see how far they could go as well. Without his constant backseat assistance, he wondered if they could soar.
"I won't assist them, but I can still monitor them, right?" He then asked.
"Monitor? If you mean spectate, then yes." Zhao Kai agreed to the terms. "We'll need to be able to spectate their progress to determine who wins the bet anyway."
And with that established, the two resumed to the main topic.
Outside the walls of Dawnshire City
"Feng, I've finished laying the traps here." Zhao Kai announced, his face and hands filled with dirt.
"Good, then come over here and assist me in digging a few more holes." Xu Feng responded. But contrary to Zhao Kai's hideous appearance, he was sparkly clean.
The two were currently digging holes and burying the herbs that Xu Feng concocted which was set to weaken the enemies' overall attributes and movement speed. Additionally, the doses were ten times heavier than usual—meaning more money down the drain.
The herbs were expensive to concoct. Not to mention, the luck required to succeed and earn enough Mastery Level to have it guaranteed the next time he wished to connect it.
In hindsight, Xu Feng had burned a total of 500 gold coins just to fill up his inventory slot with enough potions to suppress the monster wave.
And by now, Zhao Kai finally understood why he had an easy time with the Colossus.
Previously, the plants that the Colossus constantly uprooted were actually laced with such potion. It was no wonder he didn't get one shot by the Colossus.
"Ugh, I was accused of taking steroids by the community, but it's the Colossus that got drugged." Zhao Kai furrowed his brows and felt complicated.
He wanted to clarify that he didn't take steroids, but he also couldn't reveal the truth. If he did, then the effect of him soloing a Colossus would dwindle. From there, the person who would kill him was none other than Xu Feng.
However, before that, Zhao Kai glanced at the potion in his hand and came to a realization.
'Fuck, so he sent these potions to those guild members already.' Without even needing a thorough explanation, Zhao Kai was already sure he had lost the bet.
The enemies being drugged and weakened was equivalent to his members being on steroids. It wasn't quite the same, but the effect was.
"Goddamn it. You are really a cheater. They're going to suppress the monsters by throwing these potions at them" Zhao Kai gnashed his teeth and complained.
"Who told you to gamble with no information?" Xu Feng shrugged and concealed the most important aspect.
'If potions were enough, then I would have just sold them.' He laughed inwardly.
