Reinventing Magic: An Inventor's Tale Chapter 43

The battlefield crackled with raw energy as Alice, now fully transformed into her Golem Mode, stood as an imposing figure on the battlefield. Her armor gleamed under the harsh light of the burning sky, the intricate runes etched at the back of her metal form pulsating with a soft, magical glow. She moved with a fluid grace that belied her mechanical nature, her every step precise and calculated.

Tiberius, still reeling from the initial impact, watched her approach with a mix of shock and admiration. He had faced many formidable opponents in his time, but never had he encountered a foe like Alice. Her transformation had caught him off guard, and he struggled to comprehend the extent of her power.

"Impressive," Tiberius murmured, his voice laced with grudging respect. "But you’ll need more than that to defeat me."

Tiberius raised his greatsword and activated Dreadnought’s abilities. The blade shimmered with an eerie light, and a low hum of power emanated from it.

Alice’s response was cold and measured. "Your powers do not affect me. I do not feel fear."

From the sidelines, a soldier whispered in awe, "Did you hear that? She doesn’t fear anything!"

Another, an older knight, added, "This is beyond anything we’ve ever seen."

Tiberius’s eyes widened in disbelief. He had always relied on his ability to instill terror in his enemies, using their fear to gain the upper hand. But Alice was different. She stood before him, unyielding and unaffected by his aura of dread.

"Impossible," Tiberius growled, his grip tightening on Dreadnought. He drew upon the power of his four mana cores, channeling an immense amount of energy into his greatsword. The air around him crackled with magical energy, the sheer force of it enough to make any normal soldier faint.

The spectators could feel the ground trembling beneath their feet. "He’s using everything he’s got!" one shouted.

Alice remained steadfast, her expression unchanging. "Your strength is impressive, but it will not be enough."

With a deafening roar, Tiberius charged, his greatsword arcing towards Alice with the power to cleave mountains. The moment of collision was like a thunderclap, shaking the very earth beneath them. Sparks flew, and the air was filled with the electric tang of clashing energies.

Alice met his strike head-on, her armored fists absorbing the blow and deflecting the force away from her. She retaliated with swift precision, her movements a blur of metal and magic.

The battlefield became a storm of power and fury, each combatant pushing the other to their limits. Onlookers watched in stunned silence, the sheer scale of the battle beyond anything they had ever imagined.

As the clash continued, the sky seemed to darken, the very heavens bearing witness to the epic struggle below. Neither Tiberius nor Alice would yield, their wills as unbreakable as their bodies.

Alice, undeterred, continued her advance. She moved with a deliberate slowness, her every step echoing with a mechanical precision. As she reached Tiberius, she stood mere inches away, her cold, gray eyes locked onto his.

Tiberius swung Dreadnought with all his might, the blade slicing through the air with a terrifying speed. But Alice was faster. She blinked out of existence, reappearing behind Tiberius in an instant. With a swift, powerful kick, she sent him hurtling through the air, his body crashing into a massive boulder with a resounding thud.

Count Gregor, watching from a distance, could hardly believe his eyes. He had seen many extraordinary things in his life, but the sight of Alice and Keira flying through the air, defying the laws of nature, was something else entirely. His mind raced, trying to comprehend the implications of their abilities. How can someone fly like that? he wondered, his thoughts a whirlwind of confusion and disbelief.

Alice blinked again, reappearing in front of him just as he was about to crash into another boulder. With another powerful kick, she sent him hurtling in the opposite direction, his body slamming into the ground with a force that shook the very earth.

Tiberius, despite his immense strength and endurance, was beginning to feel the strain of the battle. He knew he was at a disadvantage, his powers ineffective against Alice’s golem form. Even with their thirty thousand soldiers, he realized that they stood no chance against the combined might of Alice and Keira. The thought of retreat crossed his mind—a bitter pill to swallow for a warrior of his caliber.

Keira, still hovering above the battlefield, watched the unfolding scene with a mix of awe and disbelief. She had never seen Alice in her golem form before, and the sight of their new friend’s transformation was both terrifying and exhilarating. As she scanned the battlefield, her eyes fell upon Count Gregor, standing amidst his troops, his expression a mask of shock and confusion.

"So there you are," Keira murmured, her voice laced with a cold determination. She raised her Veilbreaker Staff, channeling her mana into a powerful offensive fire spell. With a flick of her wrist, she unleashed the spell, a torrent of flames hurtling toward Count Gregor with deadly precision.

Count Gregor, sensing the impending danger, reacted with a speed that belied his age. He raised his hands, murmuring a silent incantation, and a barrier of shimmering energy materialized around him, deflecting Keira’s spell with ease.

Keira’s eyes widened in surprise. "Impressive," she admitted, her voice tinged with a grudging respect. "But you’re still no match for true chantless magic."

Count Gregor smirked, his eyes gleaming with a mix of amusement and arrogance. "You underestimate me, girl. I have mastered the art of silent casting, a technique far superior to your primitive chantless magic."

Keira laughed, her voice echoing across the battlefield. "Silent casting? That’s nothing more than whispered spells. You’re not casting without incantations; you’re just murmuring them under your breath."

Count Gregor’s smirk faded, replaced by a scowl of annoyance. "You dare mock me? I am the greatest mage in all the councils! I will show you the true power of silent casting!"

With a flourish of his hands, Count Gregor unleashed a powerful offensive fire spell of his own, the flames roaring toward Keira with a ferocious intensity. Keira, undeterred, raised her Veilbreaker Staff, channeling her mana into a counterspell.

"Veilbreaker—Reflect," she murmured, her voice calm and measured. The staff’s crystals pulsed with a brilliant light, and a shimmering barrier materialized around her, deflecting Count Gregor’s spell with ease.

Count Gregor’s eyes widened in disbelief. "Impossible," he growled, his voice laced with frustration. "How did you—?"

Keira smiled, her eyes gleaming with a mix of amusement and triumph. "That, Count Gregor, is the power of true chantless magic. And now, let me show you what real magic looks like."

With a flick of her wrist, Keira unleashed another powerful offensive fire spell, the flames roaring toward Count Gregor with a deadly precision. But as the spell neared its target, a shimmering barrier materialized around the count, deflecting the flames with ease.

Count Gregor smirked, his hand clutching the Amulet of Aegis that hung around his neck. "Foolish girl," he murmured, his voice laced with a cold satisfaction. "You underestimate the power of my artifacts."

Keira’s eyes narrowed, her mind racing as she tried to comprehend the extent of Count Gregor’s defenses.
