Having thought this, many things suddenly made sense.
A look of realization flashed across Elly Campbell’s face.
Seeing the inscrutable expression on Elly Campbell’s face, Adam Jones knew she was thinking about something and did not interrupt her.
After Elly Campbell had thought it through, she looked at Adam Jones and asked,
"You remember Sophie Baker because of the fragment from nine years ago, but why do you remember Aunt Lily?"
Adam Jones had always been aware that Elly Campbell was suspicious of Lily Bankston, so he wasn’t surprised when she asked this question.
Knowing he had annoyed her earlier, Adam Jones now replied very honestly,
"I don’t remember anything else, just the fragment before the car accident. When Aunt Lily was thrown from the car, I was the first one to pull her back."
"So, you think Aunt Lily is very important to you, and only a person you feel extremely close with, would you instinctively save her like that?"
Elly Campbell looked at Adam Jones and asked.
Adam Jones pondered for a moment and then nodded honestly.
Elly Campbell did not ask further, as she already understood the gist of it.
In fact, it was the same with the fragment concerning Sophie Baker; both individuals were the only ones Adam Jones remembered, suggesting that they were meant to be seen as the only people he could fully trust.
Lily Bankston had actually hidden everything very well, even though Elly Campbell had discovered that the email exposing Adam Jones’s disappearance had been sent from RL Hospital, she hadn’t suspected Lily Bankston right away.
Until Adam Jones woke up.
It was suspicious that he only remembered Sophie Baker and Lily Bankston.
This in itself was a clue revealing Lily Bankston, perhaps a case of being too clever by half?
Elly Campbell’s gaze narrowed deeply.
No matter how kindly Lily Bankston might seem to behave towards Adam, it was all pretense.
Elly Campbell glanced at Adam Jones, sighed, and said,
"This time, I’m actually a bit relieved that you don’t remember the past."
Adam Jones was somewhat baffled by her words.
Afterward, Elly Campbell didn’t say anything more to him and walked towards the bedroom door.
Just as she opened the door, she heard Adam Jones’s serious voice from behind her—
Elly Campbell paused, and then listened as Adam Jones continued in a very serious and resolute tone,
"I know the scheming from nine years ago had nothing to do with you."
Elly Campbell’s lips subtly curved upwards in a smile, and she turned back to him.
"Lucky you’re sensible. If you dared not to trust me, I could make you leave without a penny to your name."
The corner of Adam Jones’s eye twitched slightly, his expression cool as he looked at her and asked,
"Can I apply to retrieve the belongings you sent away?"
Elly Campbell refused outright, her hand grabbing the hem of his shirt, slowly twirling it with her fingers, and said,
"Thinking I’d spit out what’s already in my mouth — you didn’t think so beautifully before you lost your memory."
Indeed, she was a wicked woman, swallowing his fortune yet justified so boldly.
And he, strangely, had no real desire to reclaim his wealth.
"Oh, right, you’re already broke now, it doesn’t matter if you leave without anything. When I said ’leave without a penny,’ I meant it in the sense of ancient times."
The eyelid of Adam Jones twitched hard, and after Elly Campbell chuckled mischievously and walked out, he glanced fearfully towards his friend, his eyelid twitching fiercely again.
