"Where were you last night?" Megan glared at Nora with the desire to kill her. "From the first day I have known that you would be trouble. I do not know why the principal decided to keep you here when he could have sent you with your family." she exclaimed looking exasperated.
"Come with me, we are going to the principal’s office." high on her heels, Megan did not wait for Nora to reply. She had already started walking toward the principal’s office.
Many girls who were leaving for school witnessed the scene. A few of them whispered in the ears of each other while others giggled looking at her condition. Penny was one of them. She was leaning on the door with her hands folded around her chest and a cold look in her eyes.
Megan explained the reason for her coming to the peon and waited for him to get permission from the principal.
"I have handled a lot of troublesome children like you, Leonora. I thought that you would be docile for a week at least." a condescending smile appeared on her lips as she kept staring at the young girl till the door opened.
Megan did not wait for Nora to follow her as she walked in. When Nora entered, her eyes fell on an envelope with the seal of the hospital on the table and a lot of papers there. The principal folded them when he noticed her staring.
He waited patiently until Megan explained to him that Nora was absent from the dorm for the whole night. He looked at Nora with a raised brow.
"I was admitted to the hospital a week ago. I was due for a test and did not want to miss my classes. So I have requested the hospital to give me a night check up. I went to inform Miss Megan before leaving. But she was not on her desk. So, I wrote a note and left." she explained in a calm voice only for Megan to grit her teeth.
Last night she had received a call from her new boyfriend and she had indulged in his fantasy of sexting so she had left her position for an hour.
"Ha! I only have a washroom. You could have waited for me. And I do not receive any notes. Kids these days lie and do not care for repuccersions. Is it because you think you can always lie your way out?" Megan shook her head with a look of disappointment.
"You must deal with her. If she kept behaving like that, other girls would learn from her and leave the dorm whenever they wanted. How could I assure their safety then?" her voice was full of righteousness. And she looked at the principal with a resolute gaze. As if she would not leave without getting her dismissed.
The principal closed the file and looked at Nora with a helpless gaze. But the girl wore confidence on her face strongly that she could not be intimidated by any kind of threat.
"The whole scenario is exaggerated." her voice was sweet and calm as she looked around. "I have spotted a camera like that in the lobby too. You can ask for the recordings and check for how long i have waited and if i have written the note or not. And if you are unsure about my presence. You can ask my doctor and confirm if I was in the hospital or not. I am sure you have contacts in the hospital too." she smiled while looking at the desk where he had kept the papers and the envelope.
She felt the principal stiffening for a second before his eyes turned cold. She had offended him somehow. It must be related to the hospital and he was hiding it.
"She had a valid point, Miss Megan. Do you accept it?" Megan paused when she was asked. She regretted not checking the footage herself. But she had never expected her to use it.
"I will go and check myself." she tried to excuse herself. But Nora stood behind her and blocked her way.
"You! What are you trying to do? Huh? Do you have learned no manners because your mother is not here to teach you anything?" her eyes created two holes on Nora.
But Nora did not flinch. She only smiled as if she knew what Megan was hiding.
"Why? Since the principal had been included in the complaint. I want him to see the footage too or he would think wrong about me. I only want to clear my name, Miss Megan." she spoke so sweetly but her eyes were full of a mocking look that Megan clenched her hands into a fist.
"Do you think that the principal has so much leisure time in his hands? Ha! You.."
"It is alright. Bring it here. I have half an hour to spare." before she could reply. The principal already logged on to his account and opened the footage. Cold sweat started to cover Megan’s forehead.
Not only was it recorded that Nora had left a note with the doctor’s receipt on the table. But it also showed that another girl who had covered her face well came and tore that note. But her face could not be seen.
But that was not what scared Megan. It also showed how Megan was using her phone all the time and laughing and how she was absent from the desk for hours last night. She gulped when the principal met her eyes again.
"Since you were not there for half an hour. She did nothing wrong by leaving. Now it is your responsibility that you find out who that girl was. ’’ he waved his hands signaling Nora to leave. But when Megan turned to leave, the principal called her again.
"Not you, Miss Megan. We need to talk about your behavior." the woman gritted her teeth and glared at smiling Nora as Nora closed the door on her face.
"Ha! Penny, you would not learn this easily. Will you?"
