Revenge to the Alpha Mate Chapter 196

Ethan’s POV For an Alpha who’s both a husband and a father, being a wounded person was really a suffocating experience. My shoulder injury was mostly healed now, though it still twingeed when I moved too abruptly. That doctor, Miranda—her medical skills were top-notch, but she was so nagging, insisting I "move around appropriately to promote wound recovery." Fine, I’ll move around. I’d noticed Jacob looking down lately too. Ever since he got out of bed, he’d either be zoning out or wandering aimlessly, like he’d lost his soul. A brother in trouble? I had to cheer him up. I hooked my arm around his shoulder, careful to avoid the injured side. "Hey, buddy, wanna take a stroll? I’ll rust your bones if you lie there for a long time." Jacob didn’t react much, just gave a quiet nod. Fine, at least he responded. The two of us just walked along in silence, without a clear destination. But as I walked on, I found this route somewhat familiar. Wasn’t this the way to the hillside where Brett’s child rested in peace? Has Jacob been coming here a lot recently? My heart gave a jolt, but I didn’t burst it. As we were approaching the hillside, I suddenly stopped and pulled Jacob behind a thick oak tree. "SHH!" I lowered my voice, and my pupils contracted instantly because of the scene before me. On the hillside, in front of Brett’s grave, there were several figures dressed in thick canvas clothes, with their heads and faces tightly wrapped in hoods and scarves. They are holding shovels and are... Digging the soil? ! Shovel? ! Digging up a grave? ! A chill ran up my spine, followed by a deluge of rage. These son of a bitch! Not even sparing the dead? ! I felt Jacob’s body stiffen instantly beside me, his breathing become heavy, and his eyes start to turn black. I quickly pressed his shoulder hard, fearing that he would rush out at once. "Calm down, bro!" Let’s see the situation first!" I forced myself to calm down, took a deep breath, and activated the werewolf’s acute sense of smell, attempting to distinguish the information in the air. One, two... Wait a moment. Something’s not right. It was too clean. Apart from the inherent soil, decaying leaves and small animals in the forest, as well as the faint medicinal smell and suppressed anger emanating from Jacob beside me, I couldn’t detect any scent belonging to those grave diggers! No sweat smell, no body odor, nothing at all! Just like they are a group of moving, odorless statues! How the hell could this be? This was very abnormal. "Something’s wrong," I said quickly, sticking my finger to Jacob’s ear. "There’s no smell." Be careful." We exchanged a glance, and in unison, we bent down simultaneously. Our bones made a slight crackling sound, and thick hair covered our bodies. Within a few seconds, we completed the transformation. Two huge gray wolves lay prostrate on the ground, using the bushes and terrain for cover, and silently crept up the hillside. My muscles were tense and I took every step with great caution. Just as we were still about ten meters away from that group of people, a soft "click" suddenly came from beneath our feet. Damn it! Trap! A huge net woven from some kind of tough rope suddenly sprang up from under the fallen leaves and came over our heads! I reacted extremely quickly. With my hind legs, I made a sudden leap to the side and narrowly avoided the range of the net. But Jacob! Due to his previous injuries, he was half a beat slow in his movements. Coupled with the fact that his anger might have affected his judgment, he was directly enveloped by that large net and was instantly lifted off the ground, trapped inside the net, struggling in vain and letting out a low, angry roar!
