- Chapters 16 & 17
Many readers took issue with these chapters, interpreting them as racist or as blaming the victim. However, these chapters are written from the perspective of a demon who has lived through these events. They are meant to reflect historical realities from the perspective of someone who has witnessed them firsthand.
The chapters were meant to show his mentality as someone who lived more than 400 years in Japan, not as endorsements of any ideology.
Shishi Movement
The Shishi ("men of spirit") were radical samurai during the late Edo period, advocating for the expulsion of foreign influence and the restoration of imperial power. Their slogan, Sonnō jōi—"Revere the Emperor, Expel the Barbarians"—captured their mission. While their patriotism was undeniable, some resorted to violent assassinations and attacks on foreigners.
Radical Nationalist Groups in the Meiji Era
After the Meiji Restoration, nationalist sentiment surged in Japan. Some factions, initially focused on unity and modernization, adopted extreme measures, including political assassinations and violence against foreign nationals.
Radical Religious Movements
Certain 19th-century Shintō ultranationalist movements promoted aggressive nationalism and militarism, advocating for violence to achieve their goals.

Many assumed this line was a reference to Jujutsu Kaisen, but it actually comes from Jekyll & Hyde. In fact, I hadn't even watched Jujutsu Kaisen until multiple comments brought it up! It was an interesting manga so thanks for that.
