Seeing that Leng Xuan had no reaction, Zhou Li thought he hadn’t heard her, her face becoming even redder as she raised her voice slightly and said, "I said, I want you to be my boyfriend, but..."
"I heard you!" Leng Xuan interrupted Zhou Li before she could finish, responding indifferently. He didn’t believe Zhou Li truly liked him—it was probably because of Huang Xiaojun, right?

At that thought, Leng Xuan actually felt a bit uncomfortable, so his tone wasn’t very nice when he spoke, "Is Huang Xiaojun causing trouble for you again?"
Zhou Li had never expected such an indifferent and even somewhat cold response from Leng Xuan. She had intended to say, "But, you can’t touch me!" but now, that statement seemed completely unnecessary since it looked like Leng Xuan didn’t care about her at all!
Her heart felt an inexplicable ache, as if pricked by a needle. If it hadn’t been for her brother, she would have wanted to turn around and run away, never to bother with Leng Xuan again.
Once more, Zhou Li, the pretty girl, felt a blow to her heart, unable to help but secretly ask herself, ’Do I really hold no attraction for him whatsoever?’
Though her heart ached, she told herself, ’For my brother, what is this small grievance?’
Struggling to control her emotions, Zhou Li hung her head low, not wanting Leng Xuan to see the tears brimming in her eyes as she murmured, "Yes! You guessed right."
Leng Xuan, who had also noticed the change in Zhou Li’s expression, assumed she was aggrieved by Huang Xiaojun and didn’t pay much mind to it. Seeing her pitiful appearance made him feel a bit more compassionate, and his tone softened considerably as he asked, "What exactly happened?"
Zhou Li bit her lip, her sob catching briefly, before she started to recount how Huang Xiaojun had blackmailed her with her brother, demanding she become his girlfriend.
After Zhou Li finished speaking, Leng Xuan’s brow furrowed slightly, feeling a sense of bitterness in his heart. Zhou Li wanted him to be her boyfriend indeed because of Huang Xiaojun. However, he had always considered the issue his own fault, so he had been thinking of helping Zhou Li for a while. After a brief silence, he suddenly took Zhou Li’s small hand and started walking towards the school building.
Zhou Li, taken aback by Leng Xuan’s sudden move, blushed and asked, "Why...why are you holding my hand?"
Leng Xuan replied indifferently, "Don’t you want him to know I’m your boyfriend?"
Zhou Li, hearing the emotionless tone in Leng Xuan’s voice, felt an unprovoked sourness in her heart and suddenly let go of his hand, saying with a touch of sadness, "If you’re unwilling, I’ve said I won’t force you!"
Leng Xuan paused, looked back at Zhou Li, and found that she had started to cry. He couldn’t help but touch his nose and say with an awkward smile, "I know you don’t truly like me, right? Since that’s the case, we’re both just putting on an act anyway, so why take it so seriously?"
What Leng Xuan said was also true, Zhou Li had indeed thought the same at the beginning, but for some reason, having those words come from Leng Xuan made her heart ache terribly!
Could it be that her pride was acting up?
Zhou Li’s mind was in turmoil as she began to doubt whether asking for Leng Xuan’s help was a foolish and mistaken choice.
