Sheng Ting’s expression changed, and he immediately ran toward Shen Weiyi’s direction.
That’s when he saw that girl bending down, picking up a crab from the sand beneath her feet, turning around excitedly and showing it to Sheng Ting, "Look, I caught this." The young girl’s eyes were sparkling with pride.
Sheng Ting was somewhat at a loss whether to laugh or cry—he had thought that girl was in some kind of trouble.
Seeing that she was fine, his heart settled back down.
"These are sand crabs!" Sheng Ting explained.
"Can we eat these crabs?" Shen Weiyi asked curiously. She had just noticed that there were several more in the sand ahead.
She hadn’t really enjoyed last night’s seafood, and now she felt regretful thinking about it.
Sheng Ting smiled and said, "Yes, they are edible, but these little crabs barely have any meat, and they contain sand, which makes them hard to clean."
"Oh!" Shen Weiyi said with a look of disappointment, and she threw the little crab back onto the beach.
Sheng Ting said with a smile, "If you want to eat, there is actually a place nearby where sometimes you can buy fresh seafood. We can go take a look later, and if they have any, I’ll cook you a seafood feast tonight."
"Wouldn’t that be too much trouble?" Shen Weiyi asked, slightly embarrassed.
Seafood was delicious, but it tended to be quite a hassle to prepare.
"Not at all," Sheng Ting said, curving his lips, "as long as you don’t mind if it doesn’t taste good."
"I won’t mind." Shen Weiyi quickly shook her head. Having something to eat already made her very happy.
After pausing, she added, "I won’t just eat for free, I will help you."
"Okay!" Sheng Ting nodded.
It wasn’t until that evening that Shen Weiyi discovered that he had never cooked before, but that didn’t stop him from managing to cook a table full of delicious seafood meals just by following his phone.
Shen Weiyi didn’t really help much—that wasn’t quite true; she did help by eating a lot of the food since he made too much.
After walking around the beach for a while and checking the time, Sheng Ting then took her to the seafood place he had mentioned before, located in the small town not far away.
It was mostly local villagers selling the catch they had brought in, not in large quantities, but quite a variety.
Sheng Ting picked out some and then walked back with Shen Weiyi. On the way, they stopped at a convenience store and bought some condiments.
"Here you go!" Coming out of the convenience store, Sheng Ting piled all the items into one hand, then handed something to Shen Weiyi with his free hand.
It was actually a lollipop.
"They say eating something sweet can make you feel better," he said.
Shen Weiyi couldn’t help but let out a slight chuckle, feeling like she was being coaxed like a child.
Still, she smiled and accepted it, saying, "Thank you!"
Shen Weiyi unwrapped the packaging and popped it into her mouth.
It was peach-flavored, very sweet.
The lollipops sold in the small town were quite ordinary, only one yuan each, made from food coloring and essence. They couldn’t compare to the ones Shen Juan had brought her from abroad before, but Shen Weiyi felt that it tasted not bad.
"We’ve come too late this year. If there’s a chance later on, I’ll invite you to eat the peaches from the backyard of my grandparents’ house," Sheng Ting said.
"Sure!" Had it been before, Shen Weiyi might have simply considered this politeness between two people, but at that moment, she truly felt a sense of anticipation.
