They think they can just get back together, and why shouldn’t your brother drive you home? She’s being way too petty."

The girl said, "It’s so late, and it’s not safe for you to take the bus alone. How about my dad gives you a ride back later?"
Xu Chenxi gently shook her head, "No, it’s fine. We’re going in different directions, so I don’t want to trouble your uncle. He must be tired after working all day; you all should go home early and rest."
"You always think too much of others," the girl said, looking at her with a pained expression. "Your brother’s ex-girlfriend is really hateful. Just be careful on your way home and stay safe."
After the girl got in her car and left, Xu Chenxi took out her phone and called Mr. Jiang.
"Xixi? It’s about time for you to get out of school, isn’t it? Is something wrong on your way home?" Mr. Jiang’s gentle voice came through the phone.
"No, nothing’s wrong. Don’t worry, uncle. It’s just..." Xu Chenxi hesitated in her tone, "My brother had to leave early for something, and it’s my first time taking the bus. I’m not familiar with the route home, and it’s quite late so I’m a little scared. Could I trouble you to come pick me up?"
Mr. Jiang cursed upon hearing this, "That damn kid, how could he leave you at the school all by yourself? Don’t worry; I’ll be right there. I’ll have a good talk with him when I’m back."
Xu Chenxi quickly responded, "Uncle, it’s not Zhixi’s fault. He might have had some real emergency."
Mr. Jiang’s tone was laced with disapproval and dissatisfaction with Jiang Zhiyi, "No matter how urgent it is, you can’t just leave a girl at school by herself. You wait for me; I’ll be right there."

"That’s good to hear. Just get by with your studies; don’t overexert yourself. Even if you don’t get into university, I can support you for life. Let the hard work be done by others."
"As Shen Juanzhi’s daughter, all you need to do is be happy. I’ll be there to hold up the sky for you, so nothing will hit you." There’s no need to crowd onto a narrow bridge with thousands of others.
"I got it!" Shen Weiyi was touched, amused, and a bit exasperated.
