Shen Weiyi had just finished washing the vegetables and put the soup on the stove when she heard the doorbell ring. As she went to open the door, she saw a man standing at the entrance.
It was none other than Secretary Jiang.
"Miss, Mr. Shen sent me over to cook for you," Secretary Jiang nodded to her slightly.
"I can take care of myself just fine, and since it's the rare weekend, Secretary Jiang, you could have stayed home and spent more time with your family. For such a small matter, there really was no need for you to make a special trip."
Shen Juanzhi was usually very busy, with most of his time taken care of by the family's nanny and Secretary Jiang.
Owing to the fact that the nanny had taken leave to go home recently, even cooking had fallen to Secretary Jiang to take care of.
"It's fine, Mr. Shen is just worried about you, Miss," Secretary Jiang said with a gentle smile. He was treated well at the Shen Family, and the year-end bonuses were quite generous, but it meant he had to be on call twenty-four hours a day.
"If he were really worried, he should have come home earlier, instead of messing around outside and then squeezing your vacation time," Shen Weiyi never missed an opportunity to mock her dear father.
"Don't say that, Miss. Mr. Shen takes good care of me most of the time."
"What are you talking about?" A child suddenly peeked out from behind Secretary Jiang.
The little one appeared to be about two years old, cherubic with ruddy cheeks and pearly teeth.
"Secretary Jiang, is this your child?" Shen Weiyi said in surprise, looking towards Secretary Jiang.
She had never heard news of Secretary Jiang getting married, and it was unexpected that he had a child so big without a peep.
Secretary Jiang hastily explained, "No, this child was brought back by Mr. Shen." He was so busy that he didn't even have time for matchmaking, let alone having children.
"My father's illegitimate child?" Shen Weiyi was shocked for a moment, sizing up the little tyke before her with widened eyes.
Not to mention, the little brat was pretty good-looking, as if he carried the Shen Family genes.
Secretary Jiang quickly said, "No, no, no, you're mistaken; Mr. Shen found him on the roadside."
That explanation was almost worse than no explanation at all.
Shen Weiyi looked at Secretary Jiang with a skeptical face, as if he were joking with her.
"It's really from the roadside." Afraid she wouldn't believe him, Secretary Jiang emphasized again.
"Not my dad's illegitimate son?" Shen Weiyi's gaze fell on the little chap's face. To be honest, if the kid really was from the Shen Family, it wouldn't be unacceptable.
Secretary Jiang: "As far as I know, Mr. Shen only has one child, and that's you."
That's somewhat disappointing.
"What's his story?" Shen Weiyi pointed at the little imp before her.
Secretary Jiang: "Mr. Shen found him on the roadside, probably thought the kid was adorable, so he brought him home."
Shen Weiyi eyed the little bun before her, increasingly incredulous, then pulled out her phone to call a certain unreliable guardian, "Shen Juanzhi, where did you kidnap this child from?"
"Didn't you want a little brother? I picked this one up for you. How about that, do you like him?" Shen Juanzhi's voice came through the phone, calm and unconcerned.
Shen Weiyi, struggling with a headache, said, "Do you think I'm three years old? Or why don't you tell me where you picked him up from and I'll see if I can also find one to bring home?"
A mature and lazy voice from Shen Juanzhi came through the phone, "You've picked one up before, haven't you forgotten? You weren't allowed to keep him, but you weren't happy about it, insisted that whoever you found was yours."
Shen Weiyi's facial expression involuntarily stiffened.
The person she'd picked up then was Jiang Zhiyi, and after bringing him home, she had made a fuss about keeping him. Shen Juanzhi hadn't objected, pity that the parents showed up that evening.
