SCP Corporation: Contain Bonfire Chapter 51

Chapter 51: Chapter 51: One Glance Kill_1 Chapter 51: Chapter 51: One Glance Kill_1 Leaving the small inn didn’t encounter much resistance.

Colin and Tang De easily arrived outside, where the cold and quiet air of the night carried a faint mix of the local waste and other assorted stenches.

Aside from the occasional patrol team, the streets were almost completely deserted.

Even those folks they saw lying in the streets during the day seemed to have disappeared, likely hiding from the fear of the dark dome above.

Although Colin now felt that the probability of escaping at night was equally slim, it was a waste of time.

But even now he had no choice but to try…

“If our attempt fails later, we’ll go to that noble woman and see if we can initiate a siege against ‘him.'”

As Colin pondered this in his head, he swiftly navigated through the streets and alleys.

After easily avoiding some of Black Stone City’s patrolling guards, the two of them once again arrived at the city wall.

After sniffing the various scents in the air, Colin found a spot where the watch was thin and the defenses were weak.

Looking up at the ten-meter-high city wall, he turned to Tang Ken behind him,

“Can you climb it?”

Tang Ken didn’t immediately respond. He looked up, noticed the irregular construction with plenty of gaps, and nodded, “Yes, I can scale a ten-story building with my bare hands if there’s a chance.”

“That’s all we need. We must climb quickly to avoid being discovered.”

Colin cautioned, not saying much more. After looking around to ensure there were no issues, he began to climb.

A minute later, the two successfully scaled the rampart that was, for ordinary people, like a chasm in the sky.

Outside the city wall, a large number of poor gathered. They had no place to live, merely huddling together at the edge of the light radiating from the city, struggling to survive.

Occasionally, some areas had bonfires burning, but the flames were not large.

“If the bonfires inside the city go out, most of these people probably won’t survive the risk and will die, right?”

Colin glanced at them, recalling the content from the “Book of Fate” that mentioned the greatest catastrophe would start here first.

They are the lowest tier of this world, the first group to be sacrificed…

Turning his gaze away, Colin led Tang Ken towards the edge of the world of light, but after only two or three hundred meters, they stopped.

In their field of vision, at the edge of the light, there was a thin layer of black fog.

It clung to the boundary of light, blending with the outer darkness and was hardly noticeable. Had they not approached it closely, it would have been difficult to see.

Crack!

Colin took out a bottle of blended oil and threw it towards the black fog, expecting it to pass through easily. But it was instead repelled upon impact and shattered on the ground.

Without a second thought, he pulled out a lighter, casually lit a tissue, and tossed it over.

Boom!

A massive blaze erupted, with a heatwave coming straight at them.

However, the raging flames had no effect on the “black fog.”

“What exactly is this layer?” Tang Ken couldn’t help but ask.

“I don’t know for now.”

Colin hesitated for a moment, then reached into his pocket and took out a monocle, holding it by the edges and slowly bringing it to his left eye socket.

Thump~

The moment the lens touched his eye, his heart skipped a beat, and a strong sense of foreboding surged within him.

His mind conjured an image: his eyes bulged, and he fell down, bloodied.

Right then, Colin swiftly closed his eyes and flung the lens away.

But even so, before discarding it, he glimpsed through the lens a vast and terrifying form behind the thin black fog.

Its body was as large as half a mountain, constantly emitting an enormous wail full of rage.

“Ah!!!”

Colin clutched his left eye, blood continuously spilling from between his fingers, his brain throbbing unbearably, feeling as if his soul were trembling, and his body involuntarily squatted down in pain.

Meanwhile, Tang Ken, at a loss, wanted to step forward to help, but suddenly noticed that blood-red long hairs were sprouting quickly on his captain’s body, like bamboo shoots after the rain…

An invisible tyrannical aura spread rapidly.

Even more illogical was that the shadow beneath the captain writhed continuously, as if something was swelling to burst forth from within.

“What’s happening?” Tang Ken gasped, unsure of what to do.

“Don’t, don’t come near me…”

With difficulty, Colin managed to utter a sentence before tensing his body, struggling against the intense wave after wave of pain in his mind.

After a while, the blood-red fur on his skin retracted, his breathing gradually steadied, he regained a certain but limited clear-headedness, and realized immediately.

His left eye was ruined.

It was just a casual glance.

And he had lost an eye.

Drenched in a cold sweat, like someone who had been dragged out of water, Colin took a couple of deep breaths, his ears constantly buzzing.

Tang Ken was saying something beside him, but he couldn’t make it out…

He glanced at the “Analytical Lens” tossed on the ground, only to see it riddled with cracks, evidently damaged beyond use.

And pulling up information related to it…

[Analytical Lens (Severely Damaged, Unusable): Restoring to minimum usable condition requires 813 points.]

[Note: I’m cracked…]

[Warning: This item is contaminated. Contamination type “Ancient God’s Aura.” Holding it for over ten minutes may attract the gaze of an unknown existence and cause the holder to contract “Beast Transformation Syndrome.”]

“It’s done for.”

Colin took a deep breath, never expecting that he was only trying to see if there was a breakthrough in the black mist, and almost died for it.

He didn’t even dare to contemplate what that mountain-sized thing he had seen was…

He could only divert his attention to avoid thinking too much about it.

After that, he checked his personal profile again and his mouth twitched.

On the status section, a list of debuffs had appeared.

Including but not limited to “Physical Weakness,” “Nervous Weakness,” “Left Eye Congested and Burst,” “Dizziness,” “Temporary Tinnitus”…

“It’s uncomfortable.”

Sitting on the ground, Colin could not stop his body from swaying, shook his head, feeling his brain was shaking like jelly, making it hard to think clearly.

After sitting for a good while, his body recovered a bit.

“Captain? Captain?” Tang Ken’s voice seemed to come from beside him.

“It’s nothing, just a minor injury.”

Colin waved his hand, picked up the cracked Analytical Lens from the ground, and pocketed it.

Then, he took out a bar of nut chocolate and put it in his mouth.

The sweet flavor slowly spread in his mouth…

He then took out the “Gluttony Power Mark” and held it in his hand.

While holding it, Colin could feel the food he had just eaten quickly transforming into nutrients and being distributed throughout his body.

HIs bodily functions recovered rapidly within minutes…

Unfortunately.

Using this item, Colin had a complex expression, as if contemplating something.

In this moment, he felt a deep and unspeakable empathy for the fate of that “Evaluation Department” judge.

However, before he had time to dwell on it further, a new task appeared in his mind.
