I close my novel and stretch my arms. This book ended nicely. It was no way romantic or filled with any sort of illusion of love, just a great story line with good action and gore. My type of thing.
My gaze falls on the lady by my side. On a normal day, she’d be asleep but she’s not. It’s been hours if I’m not mistaken and she hasn’t moved an inch from her position on the bed, nor is she reading so why on earth is she awake?
There seems to be nothing in plain sight keeping her awake.
“Is this where I ask what is keeping you awake, kitten?” I groan, a deep, suave voice.
“Why don’t you ask the book you’re reading? It sure must have answers.” She scoffs. This makes a puzzled look form on my face. She’s got to be kidding me.
“Is that what bothers you?” I ask, maintaining my soft tone. Hazel glances at me then turns her head away. “Baby, come on, talk to me.” I murmur, closing in on her. She turns to face me, the grumpy expression on her face.
“How can you not love me if I was a worm?”
My face flattens as I hear the question. Not this again. How on earth is this even sensible to her?
“Hazel,” I call her name, about to speak.
“I would if it was you.” She blurts aloud. For this question to be on her mind for hours makes no sense to me but it must to her. I still won’t lie to feed her emotions.
“No you wouldn’t.” I say. “I won’t even let you.”
“That’s not true.” She intercepts. “How many worms do you see daily that you actually pause to pick it up and bathe it, take care of it, feed it and give it kisses?” I try to make her see some reasoning. “They’re useful in their own way but disgusting. I won’t accommodate such a question again.”
“You’re missing the point.” She sits up. “If I were to suddenly not to exhibit the traits that made me me, or the looks and became crippled, would you still love me?”
This question coming from the woman who dumped me yet ended up in my bed after is hilarious.
I let out a sigh. “If your behaviour were to change, I’d notice immediately and bring it up to you. If your outward appearance vanishes and for some reason you are physically impaired, I would devote my life into serving you as your man.” She needs the reassurance. If this is how I feel, I guess I have no reason to withhold it. “I will always love you. Even if it kills me.” I add. No jokes here because my life might venture into a more disastrous state and I am ruined by the thought that she’d experience it with me. At least, her protection takes priority. She’s the one person I’ve sworn it to.
“Thank you. I feel the same.” She finally says after staring at me for what seemed like eternity.
A smile formed on my face at the stubbornness written across her face.
“Now would you please let me cuddle you? I’ve been dying to do that all night.”
“I thought you’d rather enjoy reading.” Hazel scoffs, eyes dangling on the sheets before me. I can tell she’s trying to hide the fact that she’s wanted it too.
“Fuck reading, I want you.”
She looks up at me. Her teeth bites her lower lip as a smile forms on it. Hazel nods, spreading her arms apart. “Me too.”
I don’t waste time to give into her embrace, sinking my body into hers. The whimper that leaves her lips reminds me of the time we spent together. Ah, yes, I should be gentle with my movements.
I turn her to the side, holding her body close to mine, and cuddle her from behind. “Now you can go to bed.” I whisper, my fingers running through her hair. Kate is coming today. She’d be here in a few hours. I would tell Hazel but I don’t want to bother her mind about it right now.
She moans in response. “Turn me around, I want to feel your heartbeat.” Hazel murmurs. I know her legs hurt. Moving in her condition would be hectic.
I gently go over her to the other side instead and cuddle her body in mine, trapping her into a deep embrace. Her head rests on my chest, sunk into it. “Now goodnight, kitten.” I say to her, still threading my fingers through her hair to induce sleeping on her.
“Goodnight Killian.” She purrs, a calm, cheerful whisper.
