Chapter 39 - Echoes of the Unknown
Jin-Ho Kang advanced through the abyss, his every step bending the fabric of existence. Shadows coiled and stretched beneath his feet, carrying him toward the unseen force that had dared to push back against his will.
The vastness before him was silent, yet charged with something ancient, something that did not belong to the cycle of Monarchs, Rulers, or even gods. It was foreign—untouched by time, impervious to destruction.
Ashborn and the wraith generals followed at a distance, their forms flickering in and out of solidity. They, too, felt it—the undeniable pull of something beyond comprehension.
"My lord, it is shifting," Ashborn warned. "This presence does not remain in one place. It watches. It moves. It adapts."
Jin-Ho's smirk returned. "Then it is not omnipotent. It can still be found."
With a flick of his hand, the abyss expanded outward at an unfathomable speed, seeking to engulf everything in its path. Yet, the presence reacted. A pulse of energy rippled through the void, not opposing him directly but diverting his reach, bending reality in a way he had never witnessed before.
For the first time in his existence, something refused to submit to his dominion.
A whisper slithered through the abyss, neither hostile nor welcoming.
You do not belong here.
Jin-Ho's expression darkened. "And yet, here I am."
The abyss shuddered, as if reality itself hesitated before his defiance. The presence remained unseen, its form unknowable, yet its intentions were clear. It was neither ally nor enemy.
Not yet.
Jin-Ho turned his gaze toward Ashborn. "Prepare the legion. We move deeper. If this presence does not yield to me... then I will unravel its very essence."
Ashborn bowed deeply. "As you command, my lord."
The abyss quaked as the march began. The hunt was no longer a pursuit.
It was a declaration of war.
