"I’m hungry."
Mu Xinghan said this as soon as he closed the car door.
"Let’s find a place to eat. In such cold weather, eating hot pot is the best."
Su Wanxin didn’t expect him to be so blunt and wanted to refuse, but her stomach betrayed her, growling before she could speak.
She had not eaten at noon, only having drunk a bowl of soy milk in the morning and had been starving for a while now.
The car was quiet, so the rumbling of Su Wanxin’s stomach sounded particularly clear. Embarrassed, she cleared her throat and lowered her head, not knowing what to say for a moment.
"See, I told you I was hungry." Mu Xinghan rubbed his stomach. "It’s growling. I remember there’s a hot pot restaurant near your company, over there."
He gestured with one hand on his stomach and with the other, he pointed in the direction of the restaurant. Su Wanxin looked at him, troubled, and said, "I don’t want to eat with you."
"Why?"
"Because I’m not familiar with you."
"Are you serious?" Mu Xinghan asked with a smile: "Do you want me to tell you about how we met and how long you lived in my house?"
Not familiar?
With those simple two words, she had clearly and definitively drawn the line between them, washing away everything he had ever done.
"Or, would you like to see how many times you’ve transferred money to me, a person you’re ’not familiar with’?"
His words had too many hooks for Su Wanxin, so after gritting her teeth, she started the car and drove toward the hot pot restaurant he mentioned.
Upon arriving, she messaged Su Yao, telling her she wouldn’t be back for dinner because of a social engagement.
While she was finishing her chat with Su Yao, Mu Xinghan had already ordered the dishes. She glanced over and was surprised because he ordered all the foods she liked.
"How’s your sister doing lately, do you know?" Su Wanxin met his gaze and asked softly, "I’ve tried calling her but can’t get through."
"I don’t know." Mu Xinghan flatly refused. "But considering the time... she’s probably busy with exams."
The Heavenly Master Realm’s promotion exams, who knows if that good-for-nothing could pass on the first try this year.
"What did you come to see me for today?" Su Wanxin changed the subject and pressed for an answer.
"Just to talk. You must have questions for me too." Mu Xinghan took a sip of water, looking at her with a half-smile. "The boyfriend you mentioned the other day, is it Fu Shihan?"
"You know him?"
"Huh." Mu Xinghan scoffed. "You really enjoy messing up your life, don’t you? Once wasn’t enough, so you’re back for a second time."
Su Wanxin didn’t like his tone or the content of his words, as if returning to Fu Shihan was such a worthless move.
"If you were less cynical, I might be able to talk to you a little longer." Su Wanxin said earnestly: "If you insist on this attitude, then you can eat alone."
"What else do you want me to say?" Mu Xinghan asked her: "Do you know who doctors hate the most? Those who commit suicide."
And her current actions, how were they any different from suicide?
