Fu Shihan leaned against his car and smoked a cigarette, feeling a hollow emptiness inside.
She didn’t come back last night. Where was she, and with whom?
The more Fu Shihan thought about it, the more irritable he became, so he simply drove off. And when he returned later that night, he found next door still empty.
Ever since Fu Shihan mentioned breaking up, Su Wanxin had been trying her best to avoid and minimize encounters with him, knowing that he felt the same way.
She even moved houses just to put more distance between them.
But social circles among the elite are so small that no matter how much she tried to hide, it was impossible to be thoroughly out of sight. Thus, on the fourth day after they broke up, they crossed paths again.
A certain business tycoon was celebrating his birthday; as an elder statesman, he wasn’t fond of loud festivities, so he kept it to a simple dinner party, inviting some folks from the circle.
Su’s Brokerage had collaborated with his company on a product a few months ago, which amounted to a connection, putting them on the guest list.
After work that evening, Su Wanxin drove to the hotel venue. Upon arrival, she was led by the staff into a private room, where she immediately spotted Fu Shihan seated.
He was turning his head chatting with the woman next to him, wearing a light-hearted smile, seemingly in a very good mood.
"President Su has arrived."
"Yo, President Su."
"Here, President Su, have a seat."
As the others laid eyes on Su Wanxin, they called out, and only then did Fu Shihan turn his head to look.
Su Wanxin promptly averted her gaze, walking over while smiling and greeting people.
She took off her black coat and draped it over the chair, revealing a smart, dark green suit. As she sat down, she unbuttoned the jacket, showing a light beige shirt underneath that added a touch of crisp charm.
The dinner hadn’t officially started yet, but the alcohol was already lined up on the table.
Fu Shihan and she were at the same table, watching her shake hands and greet the people around her meticulously, but when she got to him, she merely nodded, as if that were enough, not even bothering to feign politeness.
Such differential treatment made it hard for anyone not to get irritated.
Su Wanxin had a heavy cold, which could be discerned from her voice.
Now, she was quite the sought-after figure in their circles, and many wished to climb the social ladder through her. Coincidentally, Hua Zheng had just opened up for business recently, so everyone was offering her their congratulations.
Su Wanxin thanked each one, her smile tender and graceful, but the more Fu Shihan watched, the angrier he became, his gaze darkening as he snorted with laughter.
"What’s wrong, President Fu?"
The woman beside him seemed to sense his displeasure, leaning in slightly and asking softly.
"It’s nothing." Fu Shihan replied coolly, his brow subtly furrowing at the scent of her perfume.
The fragrance was familiar, some woman with the surname Su used to wear it too. But for some reason, it seemed quite different when he smelled it now.
Resisting his irritation, Fu Shihan forced himself to continue chatting with her. Knowing Su Wanxin could see it, he deliberately laughed as if he was enjoying himself greatly.
After about twenty minutes of small talk and everyone had arrived, the dinner party officially began.
There were two tables set up in the private room, with over a dozen familiar faces gathered.
In such settings, it was inevitable to drink, and Su Wanxin had mentally prepared for it, even swallowing a couple of hangover pills in advance while she was in her car.
But the last thing she expected was that the person to get her drunk would be Fu Shihan.
He was an extremely crafty man, as always.
He wouldn’t actively offer a toast to Su Wan, but at just the right moments he would bring up "happy events" that had happened in Su Wan’s life.
For instance, the opening of her new company. Or the record-breaking achievements of her old one.
And every time he mentioned these things, people would naturally stand up, using these excuses to toast to Su Wanxin.
