Mother Yun was shocked by what she heard next.
"Our professor is here to acknowledge kinship, and it’s related to me."
Related to her younger daughter,
"Our professor is my Grand Aunt."
Mother Yun thought she had misheard – how had a Grand Aunt suddenly emerged?
Hadn’t her mom fled famine years ago, met her dad along the way, and then they married and had their siblings?
Could it be that her mom got separated from her siblings while fleeing the famine?
"After work, go with your dad to Grandma’s place."
Mother Yun was still somewhat bewildered.
"Mom, these are some local products that your son-in-law asked me to bring for you. When you and dad come to Grandma’s, bring me the backpack."
Mother Yun was handed a backpack.
"Really your Grand Aunt?"
Mother Yun remembered her mom had mentioned her before.
"They acknowledged each other as sisters, so it should be so."
Mother Yun was feeling a bit complex – she was already a grandmother and now a younger aunt had appeared.
"Then your dad and I will go after work."
Xiaoxiao didn’t continue the conversation with Mother Yun and bid her farewell at the door.
"Sister Li, what’s this?"
Mother Yun said with a smile, "My daughter brought some things over."
Brought some things over?
"That backpack of yours, it’s not cheap, huh."
Someone recognized the backpack—it must cost twenty or thirty.
"Sister Li, what did your daughter bring for you?"
Mother Yun just gave the person a cold look, "Nothing much."
Without opening it, they couldn’t keep asking.
They were just curious about what was inside the backpack.
Mother Yun left work early to find Father Yun.
"Why are you coming to the factory?"
"We’re going to my mom’s place."
Father Yun was somewhat curious about why they were going to his mother-in-law’s house.
Father Yun blinked, "Didn’t Xiaoxiao take all her things when they left?"
Why were there still things of Xiaoxiao’s at home?
"Xiaoxiao came back again today."
Father Yun was utterly surprised.
Father Yun got on his bicycle and headed toward his mother-in-law’s house.
"Xiaoxiao’s professor is my mom’s younger sister."
Father Yun was incredibly shocked, steadying the bicycle’s handlebars.
What was this all about?
Full of puzzlement, he had no idea.
Over at Grandma Yun’s, siblings from the city had all come.
Among the younger generation, only Second Brother Yun and Xiaoxiao were present; the others didn’t come.
Father Yun and Mother Yun greeted everyone individually.
When they saw Professor Ning and Dean Han, they were somewhat surprised.
A large-scale family reunion began.
"Second Brother, did you close your shop?"
"I closed up early today."
The noodle shop was usually quiet in the evening.
"So, are they really our Grand Aunt and Grand Uncle?"
Second Brother Yun was incredulous.
He thought this Grand Aunt looked even younger than the Eldest Aunt, so it’s no wonder he felt that way.
"Would I lie to you?"
Second Brother Yun was still shocked, asking cautiously, "How old did you say our Grand Aunt is?"
Grand Aunt and Grandma couldn’t be twenty years apart, could they?
She looked too young.
The elders spoke among themselves while the two younger ones stood by.
"I feel like I’m superfluous here."
"No, we’re all superfluous."
Second Brother Yun looked at his little sister with a chuckle.
After the acknowledgment of the relatives was over, they finally started to eat.
Xiaoxiao had brought back some specialties: roast duck, various dried seafood which soaked and stir-fried well, and in the afternoon, she also brought roast chicken, marinated foods, sausages, and cured meat, making for a rather abundant meal.
