Chapter 77: Chapter 077: Accidentally Boarding the Wrong Ship
Sheng Ning happened upon Lu Xiaoshuang at the faucet and hurried over to ask, “Captain, what’s up with everyone?”
It was rare to see these young girls, who were usually fond of sleeping in, all getting up so early today.
Lu Xiaoshuang was splashing cold water on her face but stopped at Sheng Ning’s question, her expression grim as she said, “The notice posted last night says all female comrades have been assigned to the War Wolf Rescue Team.”
“Really… really?” Sheng Ning could scarcely believe this good news. The last time she went to see Xu Qigang, she had tried so hard but failed to meet him. If she could really go there this time, it would be more than perfect.
Lu Xiaoshuang gave her a strange look. “You seem quite happy?”
“Ah? No, not at all.” Was it that obvious?
“It’s better if you’re not. You weren’t here last National Day. Our first stop for the unit’s performance was the War Wolf Rescue Team. It was supposed to be a three-day event, but we were chased out after just one day.” As Lu Xiaoshuang spoke, she seemed to recall something terrifying, and her lips turned pale.
After completing the morning exercises and arriving at the training room, Sheng Ning once again felt the formidable reputation of the Living Yama among the women. The usually lively group looked like frosted eggplants. In this crowd, only two people stood out.
One was Sheng Ning, who remained composed, continuing her serious and focused training, as if everything had nothing to do with her.
The other was the exuberant Chen Huaying. She was so happy when she heard the news that she almost ran around the courtyard three times, waving her arms in joy.
The sight of her made one feel like putting her in a sack and giving her a good thrashing.
“Sheng Ning, you’re pretty impressive!” Chen Huaying now found Sheng Ning more and more pleasing to the eye, feeling a sort of kinship with her.
“I tell you, these wastes don’t realize how lucky they are even to dream about going to the War Wolf Rescue Team. They dare to pull long faces, wait till I straighten them out later.” Chen Huaying rolled up her sleeves, looking like she was warming up for a fight.
Sheng Ning, who had been listening to the rhythm of the music, slowly opened her fluttering lashes like little fans, staring calmly at her.
“You also really want to go to the War Wolf Rescue Team, don’t you?” Chen Huaying asked quietly.
“Yeah!” Sheng Ning nodded firmly. She really wanted to see Xu Qigang, to ask him in person what about her he didn’t like.
“Just as I thought,” Chen Huaying slapped Sheng Ning on the shoulder, almost knocking her over with the force of her pat, and said with a click of her tongue, “Your overall quality isn’t great; you’ll be skinned alive at the War Wolf Rescue Team.”
Sheng Ning grimaced and rubbed her shoulder, deciding to keep her distance from Chen Huaying in the future. “You should have joined the rescue team. Why did you come here instead?” It was apparent that she was a warmonger.
“I boarded the wrong ship!” Chen Huaying ground her teeth, wishing she could bite her parents and brother all at once.
Looking at Chen Huaying’s animated expression, Sheng Ning couldn’t help but laugh along.
“You’re laughing? You dare to laugh?” Chen Huaying scorned, “Yesterday, you were slandered so badly, and you’re not in a hurry to seek revenge?”
Sheng Ning turned her head, looking at Qin Cuifen who had been avoiding her all day, and a cold smile curved on her beautiful face. “No rush, I don’t like to annihilate completely.”
Qin Cuifen, who had been sticking close to Zhou Xuelian, shuddered, feeling the piercing gaze on her back as uncomfortable as needles.
She recognized instantly that the self-criticism wasn’t written by Sheng Ning. Why did the inspector protect her? At that thought, Qin Cuifen’s original guilt vanished, replaced with indignant glares at Sheng Ning.
Sheng Ning unflinchingly returned with a coquettish smile.
Chen Huaying watched the whole exchange with interest, her curiosity growing even further.
