By then, other students who were not summoners had also heard about Mira, so they would see her and whisper to each other saying, 「That’s the Spirit Queen.」
At the same time, they seemed to be far less antagonistic towards summoners too. Everything she had done, and the efforts of Creos and Hinata had been successful, which put Mira in a good mood as she headed to the training area.
「Oh, you’re already here.」
It was still earlier than the time they had agreed on, but Emilia was already there in the second training area, ready to get started.
「Good morning, teacher. I’m looking forward to learning from you again today!」
Emilia greeted Mira with an energetic voice, showing how much she had been looking forward to the lesson.
「Good. Let’s get started then!」
Mira decided to focus on the task at hand and started the lesson for Emilia. For the next few hours, they practiced speeding up Emilia’s simultaneous summoning, trying to get her to cast the spell on signal.
「Mhm, that looks decent enough. I believe this speed ought to be good enough to be used in actual combat.」
Simultaneous summoning was a skill developed by Danbulf himself, so Mira knew it inside and out. Once she explained the inner mechanisms in more detail, and coupled with Emilia’s innate talent, Emilia’s speed increased dramatically, creating a world of difference compared to how she did during the display.
「Th-Thank you so much!」
Emilia was exhausted, but her face lit up when Mira praised her, while also being surprised with her own growth. All the worries that had been plaguing her were gone.
She smiled even more than before, feeling that weight off her shoulders, while also continuing to feel that mix of shock and happiness. But Mira was always strict when it came to summoning.
「Don’t get complacent yet. You’ve barely taken the first step.」
Mira quickly reminded her to not celebrate too much, telling her she should aspire to reach a far more advanced level, while giving her a demonstration of what she was referring to.
As she did this, there were no indications of her casting a spell; instead, the two Dark Knights seemed to materialize out of nowhere in front of her. This didn’t just happen once, but repeatedly, as she continued to conjure additional rows of them.
That was something Emilia could hardly imagine doing herself. She needed all her focus to do it just once, but Mira seemed unfazed as she did it over and over again. Emilia felt like she was witnessing a miracle.
However, this did not discourage her in the least. Instead, she watched with child-like amazement, and once she had recovered from her initial awe, she eagerly awaited what Mira would teach her next.
「I like the look in your eyes. So let me ask you something. Emilia, what do you believe is the benefit of this ability?」
Mira noticed that Emilia’s eyes were burning with determination, so she posed that question before proceeding with the lesson.
Emilia’s excitement cooled down a bit as she began to seriously ponder about that. After some thinking, she had a response.
She believed that the benefit of simultaneous summoning was that multiple units could be summoned at the same time, multiplying one’s fighting power faster than summoning them in sequence would. It also helped keep more summoning slots available.
All of that was based around the fundamentals and common knowledge of it, showing that she had done what research she could.
「Mhm mhm, that’s all well and correct. But it’s not everything.」
Mira nodded in approval at the response, but then pointed out that it wasn’t entirely correct. She dismissed all her Dark Knights and then proceeded to demonstrate summoning with exaggerated movements.
Then a single Dark Knight appeared next to her, which confused Emilia. Mira’s question had been about simultaneous summoning, but only one had shown up, so she did not know what to make of that.
In reality, Emilia had just jumped to conclusions. There was more than just one Dark Knight. Before she could realize, Emilia felt a stiff hand touch her shoulder.
She turned around in shock, and then yelped loudly. There were five Dark Knights standing behind her. Mira had certainly used simultaneous summoning, but unlike the previous ones, she had only placed one in front of her, and the rest were all behind Emilia.
「You can extract a big advantage if you use your summoning range effectively. And when you combine it with simultaneous summoning, that advantage grows even bigger.」
