Ling Chuxi used the Mind Training Chant and checked it out for a bit. There was clearly an extremely strong barrier outside Little Silver Ancient Mountain, and even her Mind Training skill was unable to invade it.
Ling Chuxi tried to circulate her Battle Qi, using the Mind Training Chant to its fullest.
“Don’t!” Mo Kongyuan shouted in panic when he noticed what Ling Chuxi was doing.
It was the first time Ling Chuxi had seen Mo Kongyuan so panicked. She was just about to stop when her whole body felt as if it was being struck by lightning and a piercing pain enveloped her mind. Her face instantly turned deathly white.
The barrier of the Eight Gate Array was so strong! She had only used her mind to probe it and had received such a strong counterattack. She was lucky that she had already been promoted to the realm of True Essence, otherwise the consequences might have been dire.
“Chuxi, are you alright?” Mo Kongyuan asked hurriedly, sweating profusely.
“I’m fine,” Ling Chuxi said shakily as she wiped away her sweat, her heart pounding in her chest.
“This is an array set up tens of thousands of years ago by various great sects and the monster beasts’ strongest cultivators. Don’t be reckless,” Mo Kongyuan relaxed a little as he reminded Ling Chuxi.
“Alright, I got it.” After that incident, how could Ling Chuxi dare to try a second time?
“There are a total of eight array cores. Those monster beasts being able to escape from Little Silver Ancient Mountain means that there’s an issue with one of them. The six of us should split up to check,” Chu Fengyun said suddenly.
‘That’s a good plan. I’ll check out the one here then,” Mo Kongyuan decided.
The group split up and headed towards their respective array cores.
Mo Kongyuan led Ling Chuxi towards the peak of the mountain, occasionally stopping to check on things.
Ling Chuxi did not know about arrays, but she could feel a mysterious, restraining qi hidden within the mountain rocks by the path. She was curious, but she also didn’t dare to use the Mind Training Chant to probe.
After a while, Mo Kongyuan stopped, his face somber.
“Did you find any problems?” Ling Chuxi asked.
“No, not at all,” Mo Kongyuan replied slowly, deep in thought. Eventually, he muttered doubtfully, “If problems arose in the other array cores, this place would also show it. However, there are no signs of anything at all.”
“Could it be that nothing actually happened at Little Silver Ancient Mountain? From the beginning to the end, the entire matter could just be a trap,” Ling Chuxi said softly.
A shiver ran through Mo Kongyuan’s body. He had suspected as much in the beginning, but after seeing that Level 8 Shocking Thunder Beast and the ruined villages, he didn’t think it was possible. However, at Ling Chuxi’s suggestion, his initial doubts started to resurface.
“If it is a trap, then what was going on with those monster beasts?” Mo Kongyuan asked incredulously.
“Is there really no one who is able to tame monster beasts in this world? Not even a single person?” Ling Chuxi asked contemplatively.
“I can’t say that for sure, it’s just…” Mo Kongyuan trailed off, an ominous feeling rising in his heart.
Legends said that in the Eastern Tribe of Miao Borders, there were people who were able to control poisonous insects, and even some who could control monster beasts. However, those rumors were too far-fetched and there had never been anyone who could prove them. Mo Kongyuan himself had travelled the world and even been to the Eastern Tribe of the Miao Borders, but he had never met such a person. Hence, he didn’t take the rumours seriously and so, had never associated them to Chu Fengyun.
“Just what?” Ling Chuxi asked with a frown.
