Soulbound: Dual Cultivation Chapter 113

Within moments of settling in, the warm hospitality of the household was made abundantly clear. The woman, whose name Lucas soon learned was Lady Cecilia , moved with the grace and confidence. She had already instructed her servants before their arrival, and by the time Lucas had set down his bag and exchanged a few polite words, a hot bath had been prepared for him in one of the guest chambers upstairs.

The room was pleasantly scented with steam and pleasant oils. Lavender, mint, and a faint trace of lotus filled the air, soothing his nerves the moment he stepped inside. The bath itself was large, crafted from fine marble and filled nearly to the brim with warm, crystalline water. Lady Cecilia personally directed the maidservants to ensure everything was perfect, from the neatly folded silken robes left by the bench to the rare blend of oils that had been poured into the bath to help him relax and recover.

As Lucas submerged himself, letting the warmth seep into his tired muscles, he could still hear the faint, careful movements of Lady Cecilia beyond the door, checking with the servants and returning more than once to ask if he was comfortable. It was unusual, most people who knew of his name now did so with either awe or fear, but she regarded him with calm admiration, as though proud to have such a guest under her roof. Her voice was always soft when she spoke to him, her tone carrying no flattery, only genuine care.

By the time Lucas emerged, his spirit felt lighter. He dressed in the simple yet fine robes they had left out for him, dark blue with subtle embroidery at the cuffs. When he came down the stairs, the dining area had already been set. A low, polished wooden table stood beneath a chandelier of gently glowing stones, and upon it lay plates of steaming food and pitchers of sweet-smelling wine.

Lady Isabelle was already seated and smiled when she saw him. "You look more simple now," she teased softly, gesturing for him to join them.

Lady Cecilia beamed with quiet pride as she set down another dish. "We made chicken soup. It’s not grandmaster-level alchemy, but it works wonders in the stomach," she said with a wink.

The three of them sat together and ate in the warm glow of the candle-lit room. They shared no burdensome conversations, no lofty discussions of cultivation or politics, only quiet laughter, stories from Isabelle about their younger days, and the occasional comment from Lady Cecilia , who clearly enjoyed Lucas’s company. The soup was hearty and flavorful, the wine smooth and fragrant, and the comfort of it all, a rare thing in his life of rebirth, struggle, and secrets, was something Lucas did not take for granted.

After the meal, the air settled softly within the modest but elegant home. The scent of simmered herbs still lingered faintly in the room, blending with the quiet crackle of a lamp flame in the corner. Lucas leaned back slightly on the cushion he had been offered, his posture relaxed but his mind anything but. His eyes wandered subtly, though he made sure to appear fully engaged in the conversation.

Lady Isabelle was seated across from him, her robe of soft lilac silk catching the warm glow of the light. It wrapped loosely around her form, revealing the gentle slopes of her collarbones and the graceful curve of her shoulders. Her laughter was light and rich, and her ease around Cecilia made the space feel more like a home and less like a stranger’s place of refuge.

Cecilia, for her part, exuded the quiet elegance of a woman who had once known both love and loss. There was a tenderness in her voice as she spoke, a maturity that came with grief, and yet she carried herself with a calm pride. Her dress clung lightly to her frame, modest yet unable to hide the natural grace of her figure. Her movements were smooth and deliberate, and whenever she leaned forward to refill their wine cups, Lucas found his gaze drawn before he caught himself and looked away.

The warmth of the food, the shared wine, and the softness of their voices blurred the edges of his weariness. The presence of both women was disarming, not in the way of danger, but in how easily they made him forget the chaos that had unfolded earlier that day.

And yet, beneath the casual words and soft smiles, Lucas couldn’t shake the undercurrent stirring within him. Perhaps it was the wine, or perhaps it was the glow of admiration in their eyes, but something about the way they looked at him made it harder to ignore the tension building quietly in the room.

Cecilia’s lips curled into a soft smile when their eyes met, and for a brief moment, she held his gaze before lowering her lashes and reaching for the jug again. Lady Isabelle, too, tilted her head as she listened to him speak, her attention focused so completely on his voice that it made his skin prickle.

He sipped slowly from his cup, choosing his words carefully now.

He wasn’t sure what the night would bring, but one thing was certain, this quiet moment, in this hidden house, with two women who looked at him as though he were something far more than just an alchemist, was quickly becoming one he wouldn’t forget.

With a gentle breath, he placed his cup down on the polished tray beside him, letting his fingers linger for a moment before looking at the two women seated nearby. "I think," he said, his voice low and steady, "it’s time I retired for the night. It’s been... quite a day."

Lady Isabelle was the first to speak, her voice warm and laced with understanding. "Of course. You’ve earned your rest a hundred times over today."

Lady Cecilia nodded in agreement, her eyes kind and almost motherly now, though the soft smile on her lips hinted at more. "Come, I’ll take you to your room," she offered, rising gracefully from her seat. Isabelle stood as well, smoothing down the sides of her robe as she followed.

Lucas stood, his movements fluid but heavy with exhaustion. The two women led him through the quiet hallway into the the guest chamber.

"Everything you might need is already here," Cecilia said as she moved around the room, straightening a pillow and smoothing the edges of the sheet one last time, as if wanting it to be perfect for him.

Lady Isabelle stepped beside Lucas and gave him a small nod of approval, her eyes lingering on his face. "Rest well, You’ve done more than enough for today."

He gave a faint smile, gratitude shining in his eyes as he bowed his head slightly. "Thank you both. Truly."

Satisfied that he was comfortable, they lingered for just a moment more, exchanging a few final glances before turning to leave the room. Lady Cecilia paused at the doorway and gave him one last look, gentle and lustful, before quietly pulling the door closed behind them, leaving Lucas alone.
