They didn’t have to wait long before the aircraft transporting supplies and evacuating the wounded arrived at the camp.
"Sister, are we going to ride this?" The little girl’s black eyes shimmered with sparkling light, filled with novelty as she sized up the aircraft in front of her, for it was her first time seeing an airplane.
Luo Shu smiled and nodded, "This is an airplane, once we get on, it will take us soaring into the sky."
The little girl looked up at the sky, "Like a bird?"
"Yes!" Luo Shu nodded lightly.
"Wow! That’s great! I can fly, I can fly just like a little bird." The little girl joyfully spread her arms and ran happily around Luo Shu and Lu Hanmo.
Her laughter was like the most beautiful melody in the world, touching the heart of everyone present. How long had it been since they last heard such pure, carefree laughter?
Once all the wounded and the medical team were on the plane, Luo Shu, Lu Hanmo, and the little girl also boarded.
The little girl covered her mouth, her big eyes wide with wonder and excitement as she looked all around. Because her sister had said there were wounded people on the plane and told her not to speak too loudly, she kept her mouth covered, afraid of disturbing them.
Seeing how adorable the little girl was, Luo Shu couldn’t help but reach out and ruffle her hair, "You don’t need to cover your mouth, speaking softly won’t disturb the uncles and aunties."
The little girl glanced around, saw others talking, and released her hand from her mouth, asking softly, "Sister, are we going to fly soon?"
"Yes!" Luo Shu nodded.
"So great..." Realizing she had exclaimed too loudly, the little girl quickly covered her mouth again, peering around to see if anyone was looking at her. Seeing no one was, she let out a sigh of relief and patted her chest. She decided to keep her mouth covered just in case.
Watching the little girl’s endearing behavior, Luo Shu and Lu Hanmo exchanged smiles.
Lu Hanmo placed his hand on Luo Shu’s stomach, gently stroking it, "Our babies will be even more adorable!"
Luo Shu placed her hand over Lu Hanmo’s, overlapping it on her belly, "I’m so eager to see them." She too wished the babies in her womb would grow faster after seeing the baby in her mother’s stomach that day.
Lu Hanmo smiled and nodded, "I hope they are girls, looking just like you."
"They say a daughter is her father’s past-life lover, so wouldn’t that make you greedy to instantly have three?" Luo Shu teased with a sly smile.
Lu Hanmo smiled indulgently, "And weren’t you also my past-life lover?" No matter the past life, the present, or the lifetimes to come, his lover, his beloved, would always be her alone.
"Are you sure?" Luo Shu raised an eyebrow and asked.
Lu Hanmo glanced at the little girl sitting beside Luo Shu, quickly lowered his head, and nipped lightly at Luo Shu’s earlobe, as pale as a white shell.
The tingling sensation almost made Luo Shu cry out, and she hurriedly covered her mouth with her hand.
The little girl turned her head, seeing Luo Shu covering her mouth with a radiant smile on her face, she asked softly, "Sister, are you also afraid of disturbing everyone?"
Luo Shu glared at Lu Hanmo with annoyance and nodded. This bad guy! She’ll see how to deal with him when they get back.
The airplane slowly ascended, the little girl pressing her face against the window, looking out at the scenery that grew smaller and smaller. Her eyes sparkled with excitement and thrill, "Sister, look fast! The airplane is taking off!" Realizing her voice might have gotten too loud, she hurriedly covered her mouth with her hand.
The airplane quickly and smoothly sailed amongst the clouds.
The little girl stared unblinkingly out the window, her bright eyes brimming with fascination.
Zhao Aishu was chatting with Sister Wang in the kitchen when she heard the telephone ringing in the living room. Wiping her hands, she stepped out of the kitchen.
She walked over to the telephone and picked it up, "Hello?"
"Godmother, it’s Luo Shu. I’m in Cloud City," Luo Shu’s voice came from the other end of the line.
Zhao Aishu paused for a moment, "You child, why are you running around when you’re pregnant? What if something happens?"
"Hanmo is with me, don’t worry. Godmother, I’m calling to ask you about something," Luo Shu said, glancing over at the little girl sitting not far away, engrossed in a comic book.
"What is it?" Zhao Aishu asked, somewhat surprised.
"This time, when Hanmo and I passed through Yunchuan County, we brought back a little..."
Luo Shu hadn’t finished speaking when Zhao Aishu interrupted, "What?! You went to Yunchuan County? Isn’t that place suffering from a mudslide right now? You two kids are really causing trouble! How are you? Are you okay?"
Luo Shu gave a wry smile and exchanged a glance with Lu Hanmo beside her, "I’m fine, I’m really good! This time I brought back a little girl from Yunchuan County. Her relatives all perished in the disaster. Godmother, do you have any intentions to adopt a child?"
"What a pitiful child! How old is she?" Zhao Aishu inquired. She had thought about adopting a child a few years ago, but back then, she couldn’t even take care of herself, let alone a child. Besides, adopting a child wasn’t something that could be done on a whim; it needed to feel right.
"Six years old. The child is quite well-behaved," Luo Shu said. She had already made up her mind that if her godmother wasn’t thinking of adopting, she would send the little girl to the Divine Doctor Family first.
"I have to ask your godfather about this," Zhao Aishu said. If Old Xu had no objections, she would meet the other party. If even Luo Shu thought well of her, she couldn’t be too bad.
"Okay! Then I’ll wait for your news."
After hanging up the phone, Zhao Aishu dialed Xu Feng’s number.
Soon, Xu Feng’s deep voice, tinged with a hint of authority, came through, "This is Xu Feng!"
"Old Xu, do you have a moment? There’s something I’d like to ask your opinion on," Zhao Aishu said.
Xu Feng glanced down at the watch on his wrist, "I have a meeting in ten minutes."
"Luo Shu just called me. She said she brought back a little girl from Yunchuan County and asked if we were considering adopting her."
After thinking for a moment, Xu Feng replied, "I have no objections; you decide if it’s suitable." He had always been too busy to spend time with her, and if there was a child to keep Aishu company, she wouldn’t be so lonely.
"All right! I’ll meet her first. Go ahead with your business! I’ll give Luo Shu a call back; she’s waiting for my response," said Zhao Aishu, and then she hung up the call.
