"This is something children like, I’m not so fond of it~" Chen Ya’nan waved her hand, not forgetting to instruct the two kids not to wipe their hands on the bed while eating, to wash their hands and to call someone over when needed!
He Zhilan laughed quietly. It was quite amusing to hear this thirteen-year-old girl talk .
Once the kids have something to eat, they indeed became quiet, even their chit-chat was deliberately hushed. Seeing the two kids’ heads almost touching, I’ll feed you the tasty food in my hand, and you also feed me a bite of the delicious food in your hand. They dared not laugh out loud because they knew the sister was doing her schoolwork, but they were still happily sharing the food. Occasionally, they would make a shushing gesture at each other, plump little fingers on their lips, and continue to smile with their eyes squinted. Watching the children interact this way melted He Zhilan’s heart.
Chen Ya’nan had started school early and was already in her second year at the age of thirteen, but she hadn’t fully grasped many of the first-year topics. So, all morning, He Zhilan was reviewing basic first-year knowledge with Chen Ya’nan.
The four of them - two small, one medium, one large - huddled together in the room all morning. When He Teng came back and opened the door, this was the scene he saw: two children sitting on the bed, lightly flipping through the books brought by He Zhilan while holding food in their hands, and by the bedside, He Zhilan was whispering teachings to Chen Ya’nan.
The sound of He Teng’s entrance disturbed everyone inside. All four of them looked towards him.
"Uncle He!" Chen Ya’nan laughed and waved, "Uncle He is already back? My goodness, it’s noon!" Then she stuck out her tongue, "Oh no, my mom’s going to scold me! Aunt He, I’ll take the kiddies home first, I’ll come see you in the afternoon!"
"Okay, that’s fine." He Zhilan stood up and picked up the two children from the bed, bent over to put their shoes on, and then smiled, "You’ve said these two kids are naughty, look, all morning, they didn’t disturb us at all!"
"Aunt He, these two kids are only well-behaved in front of you! Seriously!" Chen Ya’nan laughed, "Aunt He, you must be what they call a child whisperer. You’re perfectly suited to be a teacher! The lessons you explain are clearer than my teacher’s. After you graduate, you must become a teacher! It’d be a waste of your talent otherwise! By the time you graduate, these two can start school, and then, you can be their teacher. I’m sure you can turn them into child prodigies!"
"You’re just teasing me! You’re so cheeky, I’m your aunt!" He Zhilan laughed.
"Sweet-looking Aunt He!" Chen Ya’nan left laughing heartily, carrying the two children with her.
He Teng helped He Zhilan move the wooden table back to its original position. Seeing the large half of a bun remaining on the bedside table, he opened his mouth and said, "I didn’t control myself well last night, I’ll be careful tonight. You should get up early like me tomorrow morning and go to the cafeteria for some hot breakfast. If you’re sleepy, you can take a rest after eating."
He Zhilan nodded subconsciously in response, but it wasn’t until after she walked out the door did she reflect on what he meant by ’I didn’t control myself well last night, I’ll be careful tonight’. Could it be that after tormenting her all night last night, he was planning to do it again tonight?
Is this man made of steel? Doesn’t he need rest? Can he still keep up his normal training? Isn’t he afraid he’ll drain himself to death?
He Zhilan looked up at He Teng. He didn’t seem embarrassed at all and still appeared to be seriously considering her wellbeing.
