And now, not even a year into the marriage, they were getting a divorce! Gu En presumed that the Gu Family would think even less of Zhilan, a woman who treated marriage and divorce like child’s play.
He Zhilan’s divorce didn’t require any additional comment from Gu En. The Gu Family would naturally look down on a girl who enters and exits marriage on a whim, doubting her integrity.
"He Teng got promoted to major early this year, didn’t he? Lots of folks say he’s got a promising path ahead." Tang Tang asked tentatively, "Did your brother Lan Li say anything about this?"
"What could my brother Lan Li possibly say?" Gu En glanced at Tang Tang, then chuckled, "Tang Tang, don’t tell me you’ve set your sights on He Teng?"
Tang Tang’s reaction confirmed Gu En’s suspicion. Thinking of Zhilan’s high-handed behavior earlier, she began to imagine a scenario where Tang Tang, married to He Teng and hence Zhilan’s sister-in-law, stole Zhilan’s ex-husband and took good care of Zhilan within the He Family. Wouldn’t Zhilan’s life become more fascinating?
"He Teng is divorced. He’s like a second-hand man, how could I like him?" Tang Tang took a while to deny it half-heartedly.
"So what if he’s divorced? Isn’t it good enough that he has a bright future? With his capabilities, there are plenty of people who’d be willing to marry him. Are you looking down on him because he’s divorced? Tang Tang, look at your Tang Family, already in decline. If He Teng hadn’t been divorced, do you think he would want to marry the daughter of a family like yours? His prospects are good. Wouldn’t it be better to marry the daughter of a higher-level leader?"
Gu En spared no sarcasm on Tang Tang, even after they had spent the day shopping together. "If you’re interested in He Teng, you should make your move while he’s fresh out of divorce and not considering such things."
Perhaps Tang Tang was used to Gu En’s ridicule, so she didn’t show any displeasure. Rather, she seemed more stir-crazed, but she was in a dilemma. "Although I’m currently in the Art Troupe, we’re not often taken to He Teng’s unit and I don’t have any valid reason to go there even though I have lots of free time."
"Are you worried about this when I’m here?" Gu En smiled. She looked at a city management official not far away and waved, "There are two girls selling stuff near the side door of the mall over there. Go confiscate their things and take them back to your office for some education."
While speaking, Gu En directly took out some large bills from her wallet and handed them over to the official. She then smiled at him and walked away with Tang Tang.
Over there, He Zhilan and Chen Xiting were completely ignorant of Gu En’s trick. One selling, the other handling the money, their business was booming.
Initially, there wasn’t much to sell. After selling for a while, only a few items that no one had picked remained. Zhilan was getting ready to sell some more, and if she didn’t manage to sell, just pack up and return.
