"But before being addressed as He Zhilan, you were Gu Zhilan, in the capital. Haven’t you ever thought about finding your birth parents?" He Teng squinted, observing He Zhilan’s every reaction.
"Why should I look for them? I don’t want to, there’s no use. It’s been thirteen years, if they could be found, they would’ve been found by now. They are long dead to me." He Zhilan shook her head, "Brother, why are you asking me these strange questions out of the blue? What, now that we’re divorced, you don’t want anything to do with your sister? You want me to find them, go back to them, leave the He Family and never have anything to do with you again? Do I repulse you?"
He Zhilan bit her lip, her eyes turning red, she looked at He Teng with a saddened face, "Brother, can’t you just not drive me away from the He Family? I’m He Zhilan, always will be, I love dad, love Dongxue, and I love you! I’ll always be the daughter of the He Family, in the past, I’ve made a lot of mistakes, causing dad to be upset and you to be angry, but I’ve always tried to better myself, and to make up for my past faults. I just want to stay in the He Family and live a good life."
"Don’t say any more, Brother!" He Zhilan interrupted He Teng directly, "I’m tired, I’m going to sleep!"
After speaking, He Zhilan flung off her shoes and climbed into bed, pulled the blanket over herself, completely covering her body, not even her eyes were showing.
He Teng let out a heavy sigh, some answers were clear in his heart, but he didn’t understand, why was she reacting ?
"Since you don’t want to talk about it, then forget it, if you’re tired you should go to sleep, I’m leaving now." He Teng stood up while saying.
As he was about to close the door behind him, a shout came from the bed, "Brother! Come back!"
"Didn’t you say you were tired?" He Teng’s hand paused on the door handle.
He Zhilan nodded, "Yes, I’m tired! But, when you’re not around, I can’t sleep well! There are rats in the room, I’m afraid! You have to stay here with me until I fall asleep!"
"I’m not a cat, what good can it do for me to stay?" He Teng countered, yet his feet still took a step back, stopping next to He Zhilan, "Are there really rats?"
"You’re not a cat, but you’re more useful than a cat! If you’re here, I’m not afraid even if the rats come out!" He Zhilan muttered, "Yes, there is! It was making noises all night last night, scared me so much I couldn’t sleep well."
"What’s there to be afraid of a rat? Some people even eat rats, served as a dish, would you know that it’s a rat?" He Teng laughed.
"Brother, you’re disgusting! Shut up, don’t speak!" He Zhilan seemed to show great distaste for his words, but she nevertheless moved inward a little, leaving enough space for one person and patted the empty spot, "Brother, get in."
He Teng was taken aback, "What would it look like? I’ll stay next to you, close your eyes and sleep. I’ll leave once you’ve dozed off."
He Zhilan let out an understanding sound, seemingly recalling that He Teng was someone who always followed the rules.

He Zhilan stood up and pulled He Teng to sit on the bed, then she spun in a circle and laid down, resting her head on He Teng’s leg. She found a comfortable position and closed her eyes in contentment, muttering, "I feel safer this way!"
He Teng’s nerves were exploding!
"Lie down properly! Go back to bed! How could you behave ?" He Teng chided He Zhilan quietly, using his palm to separate He Zhilan’s head from his thigh.
