The first time He Dongxue went to the capital, she was much more excited than He Zhilan’s first visit there. Having Zhilan with her, Dongxue wasn’t nervous or scared at all. Aside from a moment of reluctance when leaving home, she spent the rest of the time smiling ear-to-ear.
He Hongmei treated both of them equally. When Dongxue got accepted into university, the Liang Family didn’t borrow money. But as an aunt, she bought Dongxue two new dresses. On the train, Dongxue would often glance at the box containing the dresses, fearing that they would be taken if she wasn’t careful.
Although they planned to visit He Teng’s military base, they had to switch trains and carried a lot of luggage. So, they went straight to the capital to catch a train to Teng’s base the next morning.
Lin Chan, known as the best big brother, couldn’t wait for Zhilan’s return to the capital and began waiting for her at the train station right after lunch.
"Lin Chan!" As soon as she left the station, Zhilan called out to Lin Chan’s silhouette and then said to Dongxue, "Lin Chan was my childhood playmate. He’s very nice to me, and so are his parents. "You’re finally back! I’ve missed you like crazy! Welcome back!" Lin Chan opened his arms for a hug, but Zhilan dodged him.
"I’m a married woman now; I need to be conscious of my image in public! Let me introduce you to my sister, He Dongxue, a freshman at the Military Medical University!"
"Well, at most, you’re someone who had a past marriage and may have a future one! Can’t I hug my sister? Even if He Mutou was here, I would still do it, what could he say?" Lin Chan retorted before looking at Dongxue. The siblings indeed had few similarities: in Lin Chan’s words, He Teng was big and clumsy while Dongxue was petite and delicate. "My name is Lin Chan. Since you’re Zhilan’s sister, if you ever need anything in the capital, just say my name!"
Dongxue let out an "Oh," then tugged at Zhilan’s sleeve and asked, "Who is this He Mutou he’s talking about? It’s not our big brother, is it?"
"You got it right. He’s talking about your big brother!" Lin Chan chuckled, "He Mutou, He Mutou, isn’t that a fitting name? Just like him!"
"You’re making fun of your head! Too disrespectful! Where exactly does my big brother act like a ’blockhead’? He’s smart!" Dongxue stamped her foot in irritation.
"A smart blockhead, huh?" Lin Chan nodded seriously, "His ’blockhead’ nature doesn’t prevent him from being smart! He’s just a smart blockhead."
"I can’t stand you!" Dongxue rolled her eyes so far back that her nostrils could probably see white. She was defensive of her family. She could grumble about her brother’s nature in private, but she wouldn’t tolerate anyone else insulting He Teng.
Lin Chan was not offended and was still grinning. He picked up their luggage and urged them to get in the car, before asking Zhilan, "Girl, you’re staying at my house or a hotel tonight? Why not stay at my place? We have plenty of guest rooms, and it’s safer too. You can leave your stuff there for now and pick it up when you’re back from the base. It will be much more convenient!"
